How Did You Get Back on Track?

Recommended Posts

I feel like my adherence to my post op diet has really been slipping since the holidays, and I am not able to rein it in. Lots of little cheats here and there, and my weight loss has definitely suffered.

Did you stray and get back on track? What did you do? Was it hard? Aaaah I need help!!

The first time I stepped on the scale and had a 3 pound weight gain after grazing on candy bars, Cookies, cake etc the night before, I freaked. I had lost total control that evening and I was very afraid the next day that I would slip back to my old pre-surgery habits.

So I refocused on documenting everything I eat on MyFitnessPal and I make sure I saved calories in my plan for a Special K Protein meal bar in the evening while I'm watching TV. Special K bars aren't considered high Protein (only 10 grams of protein in 170 calories), but they come in great flavors and don't have the Protein Bar after-taste that many high Protein Bars have. So I've convinced myself that a Special K bar is like my evening candy bar.

Its normal and natural to make a mistake every once in awhile, I know I have. Just the next day clear your mind of the day before and remember why you had the surgery, and maybe it wasnt just to lose weight, for example I was pre diabetic so its very important I don't fall back into old habits from my overall health and longevity. So just forgive yourself and start fresh and move on, also documenting as stated above everything you eat is wonderful.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
