What are you afraid of?

Laparoscopic surgeries are relatively easy. There's nothing to be afraid of.

Pre-op scared: I won't be able to stay focused enough to stick with the pre-op diet. And/or I will be so crabby no one will be able to be around me.

Post -Op: Personally, I'm afraid it won't work. Nothing will change and I will have put my body through this alteration and nothing. Or worse I will feel horrible after and I don't mean in recovery but like forever.

That being said, I realize there is an element of the unknown. I accept that and understand that's where most of my fear comes from. I am working on issues in my life that will help me as I move through this transisiton to a healthier life emotionally and physically.

Thoughts become things.

If you think something won't work, it won't.

If you want this bad enough, and I think you do, then you do all you can to make sure you will succeed.

Sure, we all have/had some doubt, but don't let that over power the willingness and confidence that you will need from this day forward.

AMEN! I sometimes feel like the oddball on this forum. I went into this with no qualms whatsoever. I had done my research. I followed my doctor's instructions to the letter and I was ready. Some small butterflies in my tummy day of surgery, but mostly just calmness. I had a smooth, easy surgery and no post-op pain to speak of.

Me too BLERD. Surgery doesn't scare me, best sleep ever!

I'd do it again tomorrow if I had to.

This is going to change everything. This is the most important decision I have had to make. I am choosing to LIVE FOR ME. I spent so many years people pleasing, I'm going to make ME happy.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
