Feb Bandsters June Challenge

Recommended Posts

Oh, TravelGirl, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad... I was wondering how we'd managed to loose you in the transition to June, but I didn't imagine tragedy. I wish there was more I could do or say as I'm sure my "so sorry" doesn't help you any, but I do hope you're able to find comfort in our company as you grapple with your pain & greif...

Welcome to June's exercise challenge. Pick your level & hop on!

Thanks, it's been hell this week, but thanks to my band, I did manage to NOT eat myself into oblivion. I maintained my weight this week, and possibly even lost a pound or two? Not sure, I've been writing my weight down every morning, (to keep myself on track, not to beat myself up with), but I haven't really paid attention to the numbers this week. Hmmmm.... Now I'm curious...I'll have to check it when I get home.

OH, and btw, 30 minutes and 64 ozs down already today! I haven't decided which level to shoot for this month. I was going to try for the badass level, like babygrl (HI!!!), but it's too late for that one already....

Oh travelgirl I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot imagine the pain you must be going through and I will be sure to keep you and your family in my prayers. Girl with what you have been through this week if you manage to work out every day for the rest of the month I think you will reach the ultimate bad ass level.

And I think of you, Zannie, and I as bad asses anyhow!

Awesome job Magii!!!! I am feeling pretty good. I had a great day at work today. I still have to get my running for the day (did my hour of walking but I need my 5k run...arg!) I oculd do it tomorrow but I really want to get it in before I go to bed.

Ok, I got 45 minutes in yesterday. Babygrl, I RAN on my treadmill. Only for one minute, twice during my 15 minute walk, but that's more running than I've done since I was in Gym in High School (and I graduated in '92, only had to take Gym 4 semesters, and got it over with my sophomore year...) :)

Let me tell you, if you weren't on here every day telling us about how much you're running, I'd never have attempted it. Thanks!

That is so great!!!!!!!!!! I am telling you I was seriously weary of the couch to 5K but it really has been working. I started week 5 yesterday. I ran 5 minutes 3 times in my workout with 3 minute breaks in between. The first week I started I could barely run the 60 seconds once in my workout and now to actually run for 5 minutes? I could have ran more. I am going on my work walk in about 30 minutes. I can't even decribe the effect of having a workout partner. It really does get me off my butt to workout because I know she is waiting for me. Plus it makes the hour fly by to have someone to talk to. She is dieting too so we are always comparing notes and such.

I am so proud of how well we are all doing. You guys are my band sisters and I hope we keep doing challenges till after the cows come home.

I totally understand about the workout partner. I used to have someone I could count on for anything (bestest friend anyone could ever have), we quit smoking together (amazing), we worked out together... but she moved away. :) no one else will make the commitment to hang with me while I do this. Hubby will, but we only have evenings together, and I like to get in most of my walking during the day. We're too busy in the evenings to be consistent.

15 minutes down so far, 30 to go!

TravelGirl, I'm class of '92 as well -- went to H.S. in Bellevue, NE (AirForce Brat), where I started dating DH at the ripe old age of 16 years! Have you always been heavy, or is this an "adult onset" situation? I was average weight until puberty & then I stopped growing taller in 5th grade & kept growing out! I was a tight 14/ loose 16 in high school. And I haven't regularly worked out since 9th grade gym!!!

This is a HUGE change to my lifestyle, and I'm really not liking it at all! I had hoped by now I'd crave the physical activity...like some crazy people I know!! :) But that has yet to become the case! Still, I'm off to do workout #4.......

I agree, BabyGrl, that we ought to perpetuate these challenges every month! If only I had one single competitive bone in my body... :) I like the accountability!!!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
