At one of my group meetings, someone said they can drink it occasionally, in very small portions. But, I think it's a no-go!

For most of us carbonated beverages, beer and champagne are forbidden foods. I was pretty nervous about it at first but I have had absolutely no problems giving them up and rarely miss them. I certainly wouldn't let it stop me from getting my band!! NO WAY!

Dear Bummed,

You can drink all the flat coke you want!!!!

I love how I feel in my 12 jeans. It is the only thing I really have had to give up. Well gooey bread but I always loved the crust the best anyway.

I would love to have a Diet Mountain Dew but I have found other things to drink that I like just as much.

Some people can drink coke, flat and fizzy. I prefer not to. Personal choice. Three years ago I thought I could never go without diet coke. I was addicted. Now, I don't miss it.

I'm sure that varies by doctor but I was told by my surgeon to never drink ANYTHING carbonated again. Whether it has any calories or not. I tried a sip of my hubbies soda many months ago and it about killed me. the pain in my chest was awful.

Maybe it's time to start discovering the enchantment of other drinks: Water, natural juices, herbal tea, green tea, etc.

Coke, diet or regular, can be rahter addictive (I say this from my own experience...). I still have a sip every now and then, but try at least to have it flat. I had champagne last night (FIL birthday party) but just one flute, not 2 or 3 like I used to, and no harm done. I'll be doing extra 30'mins. at the gym this afternoon.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
