Stage 1 Diet Questions

Recommended Posts

I know that theres some differences depending on the doctor that everyone has, but I had some questions about Stage 1.

Mine is a week of Clear Liquids. 2 oz of things that aren't Water every 2 hours as meals and water in between. How long am I supposed to take for each meal? Do in need to follow the 30 minute rule or no because its all liquid? I know the main thing is to get the 64 ounces of water a day. Am i supposed to to the meal part until I feel full and stop? Does that also go for the water? I have been taking 2-3 minutes between sips of water. Sorry if I seem so confused. I thought I had it down but it seems different from when I left the hospital than what was in my final pre-op class. Thanks for any help with this.

For the first two weeks after surgery, I just followed my Dr's guidelines...drink small sips throughout the day, try to get in 32 ounces in the morning, again in the afternoon, and again in the evening (yeah, this didn't happen), 60-70 grams of Protein, and if taking just small sips I could just go ahead and eat since it was all liquid anyways...but still to practice waiting 30 minutes after eating to resume drinking. The Drs were mainly concerned with Fluid intake then anything else the first couple of weeks & to be honest I wasn't interested in really eating anything at that point anyways.

don't worry about the numbers. just keep sipping. I don't think I hit 50 oz of Water and took in even less in Protein the first few weeks. Just drink what you can and keep sipping. Some days will be easier than others. Don't stress about target numbers the first month. Just do the best you can.

This is a new adventure for you and you'll have to experiment (carefully) to discover what's right for you. During my 1st 2 weeks post-op, I could not eat but a tablespoon full of liquid before Frankensleeve started growling.

On week 3 I was able to eat about 3/4 can of cream of mushroom Soup per day. So the main focus for me was staying hydrated. I placed that before anything else.

I don't know how much I was drinking. I just sipped sipped sipped all day long. As long as I felt okay, I wasn't worried. And eating? I figured I had so many calories stored in my fat that I could survive a Zombie Apocalypse... as long as I didn't have to run from the zombies! :o

Hang in there, you can do it. Don't be hard on yourself. Learn. Breathe. Relax. Be positive.
Learn to do what is right for you. Then make the Right Decisions.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
