Ohhhh! My aching sleeve

Recommended Posts

I'm about 5 months out and the experience and results have been fantastic, no more CPAP, no more meds, walking without pain, and I don't need to shop in the big mans section anymore. Life is good and getting better. But me and my sleeve are still getting used to one another, I usually feel some restriction and stop, but if I eat too fast or go over the line.......ooooowwwwwwww. I get really really uncomfortable and regret the hell out it for at least a half hour. As awful as I feel, I hope that feeling is permanent because I WILL get it sooner or later and I appreciate and cherish this new friend (tough love I guess). Has anyone else experienced that feeling? Does it last?

I'm 4 months out tomorrow and I am having something similar. If I eat too fast, don't chew well enough, eat too much or sometimes just because my sleeve is a bit cruel, I will feel really bad. But mine is much longer than 30 minutes and often includes throwing up multiple times. Just happened to me at dinner tonight and took 2 hours before I felt better.

I should embrace this as tough love. I'm sure it's helping me.

Vince , I'm only 3weeks post surgery but I get the same thing. One bite too many and my sleeve cramps up. I for one am grateful for the pain. It stops my eating pronto. It feels like the honeymoon phase. I've heard that it stops around the one year or so mark, but I don't know for sure. I just hope when it does stop that I will have better impulse control & better eating habits than I did pre-sleeve.

Sounds like you are doing well. Keep it up!

@@PaulaleeB Pain and suffering should not be in the same sentence as honeymoon. The pain and suffering comes later in the marriage. LOL

I'm 2 years out and I still feel the pain of one bite too many. I learned a long time ago how much I can safely hold at one meal, but there are times when I just want one more bite - and I pay for it! Frankensleeve doesn't like to be pushed to his limits.

Live every day with purpose. Live every day according to your mission and your plan. Have a vision for what you want to accomplish, and act in congruence with it. Focus on what matters in YOUR life and never, ever, EVER give up on what is important to you. Stay strong.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
