slight cough after throwing up

Recommended Posts

First note, it has literally been years since I have thrown up. I have always been really healthy- I haven't even had a cold in years. Vomiting had nothing to do with my band and it was just once. I had a reaction to a medicine I took yesterday morning. I didn't have any food in my stomach, just coffee. I have been had a slight cough since then, not just at night. My cough is not bad at all; just irritating. I know that if it gets worse to let my doctor know but I'm not worried at this point. My question is how long will this last?

I would just call the dr's office and talk to a nurse...usually they are pretty good about answering questions over the phone.

Maybe its just a tad irritated? I would try some warm liquids like maybe tea and soft foods for a day and see how it goes....

to be honest, I didn't ask. I had my fill just a little while ago but I didn't see the dr - just the techs.

Basically I've been sick this last week. I can't tell if that was because I threw up or if me getting sick just triggered me getting a cold. I'm still coughing and have some chest congestion, but my throat is not hurting anymore (a couple of days ago i woke up with a very sore throat) so I'm happy. I feel like I'm just getting over a cold without all the nose issues.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
