What's the problem?

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I was banded in August of 2013.

Two weeks ago, I realized I was able to eat a bit more than normal but still not too much. In hindsight, I realize my band was likely too tight before and I didn't realize it. I did have several episodes of food coming back up. I feel different now but great. The problem is, nothing changed... No adjustments. I was just able to eat more one day.

Any idea what may have happened? Unfamiliar with signs of band slippage but also unsure if that's a possibility because the amount of food I can tolerate is still limited. (approximately one cup.)

Has anyone else ever experienced anything of the like? My surgeon is 3.5 hours away & when contacted via phone, they seemed unconcerned...

Suggestions, advice and similar stories welcome!!

this doesn't sound like a band slippage. either you just know how to eat with a band or if you are gaining wt. a slight fill might be needed.

I can be much tighter after a day of liquids. I can eat more in the evening than in the morning. It does fluctuate a lot.

That's how it is. My bf has to drink something hot before he can even think of eating.

Thank you! I do this too.... I think I was just sketching myself out! :) Thanks everyone for your feedback!

I like your surgeons advice. And I like that you called for a professional opinion.

I eat more some days than others as well. I still get hungry at times, eat faster, chew less, and I'm 5+ years out. But occasionally, I won't eat anything solid all day.

You don't sound like the volume was a significant change? Or not a total loss of restriction? If it were, I'd be concerned and look for an answer.

Best wishes on your continued success! :)

I can also eat more on some days....some days I don't eat anything...weird right? My band also feels different at times...when it is colder out it seems tighter...or when I travel.

I agree that calling is a good idea. After all the doctors are there to help. There have been a few times that I have called and talked to my nurse, because I am also quite a ways from the office.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
