Can we talk blenders?

Recommended Posts

The Breville's are terrific machines, however it depends on what you plan to use it for. I cook most of my food from scratch. A Vitamix or Breville is a good investment for me. However if all you want to do is mix your smoothies and Protein Shakes then it best to save the $300+ these machines cost and get something a bit more basic.

I was seriously considering purchasing a Ninja, but I used my mom's old Cooks Essentials smoothie blender last night, and it did work really well.

I think she just lost an appliance....

I have a Ninja and I will say that it is fine for blending but does not do a great job grinding ice. I have to use an ice shaver if I want to add ice to smoothies.< /p>

I have a Ninja Pro 1100 and I absolutely LOVE it. I chose this model specifically for it's ability to crush ice and frozen fruit. I use it daily for Protein Shakes (with ice) and my daughter uses it daily for frozen fruit smoothies.

It was just my birthday and i was thinking of buying a vitamix. I am learning to cook more from scratch, hate to chop, love to do food prep ahead of time and freeze. Trying to talk myself into justifying the Vitamix. Surgery is within a month, it's just me - though i could get carried away and start making natural cat food. Do i take the leap?

@purrfctangel It's just me and my dog! =D They have I think it is a 5 year warranty, maybe longer, I forget now. And you could always return it if you aren't that impressed. But trust me... you will be! If you plan on using it for actual food prep and not just smoothies, it will rock your world. :) I have the big 64oz container and the 32 oz so having that versatility for big and small jobs is great. I had thought about getting the dry grains container too, but never did.

YES! Especially if you want to learn to cook from scratch. Do the easy pay options on QVC.

Like @blondiebabs it's just me and the cat, but I have a kitechenaide mixer, a juicer, a kitchenaide food processor and a nutra bullet. As soon as I can swing the funds I'll be getting a vitamix. I cook mostly from scratch and it has changed my life and improved my health.

Any advice on which vitamix to go with?

I started moving away from processed food a few years ago. Now with the surgery almost here I've given up fast food and soda. My grocery cart today was all veggies, fish, chicken and stuff to make Soup and chili. Yes i think i need this. I'm not a lean cuisine eater, i want real food.

I don't know models or number but I like the short one for home use. I don't want the newest one they have that's just a fancy smoothie maker.

The short one is the "under the cabinet" version. I suggest no matter what model you end up with, just make sure to get the variable speed models. =)

I love my Vitamix! I have the professional one, too. Makes Soups and smoothies and nut butters and on and on. However, it's a lot of money if you don't cook a lot or want to make things like that.

I loooooove my Vitamix. Expensive, but depending on how much you use your blender and for what (e.g., raw veggies, etc), it's well worth the extra cost!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
