New to forum lap band support

Recommended Posts

Hello! My name is Simone 24 married with two babies 16 months old and 3 month old! I have always struggled with my weight throughout childhood into adulthood! When I was pregnant with my first daughter Victoria I reached 140kgs and developed gestational diabetes after I had her I made the decision to be banded! I met with the surgeon and scheduled the surgery for early December 2013 I then found out after losing a few kgs I was pregnant with my son! So my weight loss journey was put to a holt while I was growing my baby boy I gd to get the Fluid removed due to myself losing too much weight for the pregnancy the general surgeon that removed the Fluid may have damaged my port so I am currently putting fluid in and my band surgeon will let me know next week Tuesday if I have to get my port replaced I currently have 4.5ml in my band and finally feeling restriction I am weighing in at 119KGs after my pregnancy! I cannot wait to start my journey again and get into double figures! I hope I can get a buddy to go through our journeys together !

Thanks for reading!

Welcome to the forum! You will find all sorts of people here who are on their journey... and will be there to pep talk you when things (if things!) get rough.

Sounds like you've already had quite an adventure with Mamahood and being banded. I'm a new "ban die", having been banded just 2 weeks ago. I've found the forum a great place to vent and find support.

Welcome! :-)

Hello the professor! Thanks so much for taking time to read my message I'm so excited to have people to share my experience with! Congratulations on getting banded! So far I have been so happy with my surgery decision so at the moment are you still on liquids? How are you finding it post op? I found that scrambled eggs and avocado were my best friends in the early days!

My decision to get banded was a long time coming, and so far since surgery (the past two weeks) have been easy. I had a hilarious "full fluids" liquid Christmas dinner (amazing how pulverized turkey and stuffing and a whole lotta chicken stock can get in a "VitaMix" blender)!

So I timed my surgery at the most difficult time of the year - Christmas and New Year. I'm on soft foods now, (yoghurt, eggs, very finely minced 'wet' chicken salad) and tomorrow start back on a regular diet. Roast chicken, come to Mama. And yes, avocado rocks my world!

Post-Op - no problems at all, once the gas in my chest dissipated. The gas pain post-op was brutal the first two days - I had a hernia repaired at the same time and this compounded the pain significantly. Day 3 I was starting to feel human again, and by Day 4, I was back to my bouncy self!

I'm not anywhere near as hungry as I used to be before getting banded.

I eat a small amount (no more than a half Can you pick me up?) of food, and follow the rules... tiny fork or spoon, small plate, chew, chew, chew, chew, no drinking Water during my meals, stopping when sated. Before I used to get ravenous - and I would eat huge meals! Now I get this feeling more in line with "Hmm... I could eat..."

Feeling a little hunger between meals now, so instead of going for 3 hours between eating, I now start feeling peckish at about 2 hours. Almost time for a fill, I think!

Yes! I got my band last December on the holiday period and again started my fills early December the timing isn't great but probably a good thing that way I don't eat too much over the holidays! Lol! OMG I remember the gas pain for some silly reason I got referred pain through my shoulders and still do if I eat too much I know that's definitely a sign to stop! Yes sounds like you need a fill! When do you go back to your doctor? do you know how much Fluid he put in ur band during the operation? I started off at 3mls I am in Australia so might be different where you are!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
