Hi All,

I've been on this site for about a week now everyday, reading threads. I am soo ready to get banded now. You all have been very helpful in making my decision to lapband. My husband has decided to do it with me. I've already talked to my insurance company, and am awaiting the paperwork from them. I've already made my first of probably many doctors appt. for the diet plan the insurance company is requiring. They are requiring us to wait six month before they approve it. They said we could do it in three months with a hospital program.

Three questions: Does anyone know a faster way around this? How do find a hospital program? Can I get some input on how much this surgery costs?

Thanks,

Jo:)

I am at a BMI of 35.4. I have been over 200 pounds for over 5 years, I have several years of unsuccessful weight loss attempts. The last was with a doctor. I also have been on Weight Watchers and have 2 person trainers. I do not have diabetes but have been put on medication for it. I am pre diabetes and/or insulin resistant, I have high blood pressure which is managed by medicine, I have had my gall bladder out, I have had back surgery 5 years ago, I now have pain in my lower back, knees and hip. My cholesterol has gone up in the past few years as that I am on medicine. My insurance is with United Health Care. My waist is 40+ inches. I would like to know your thoughts if this is enough comorbid obesity related items to get the surgery approved.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
