Time Period Between Surgery and First Fill/Adjustment

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on December 3 and will have my first fill/adjustment in mid January. After the first week, I am finding that I can still eat anything, with no real limitations. Being that this period has been during the Holidays, I am afraid that I am getting off on the wrong foot. What should I be doing during this period as far as eating guidelines. How does it change once I have my first fill?

I'm in the same boat as you. I had my band on the 16th of December. Waiting for my first fill on the 8th. I have no limitations with the band and mentally apparently. Can't wait to get the fill to give me some sense of restraint. If I could control my portions on my own, then I would not have gone through surgery. I am anxious for the band to begin to assist because I truly had more to eat than I would have liked two weeks out. I can say I stuck to the liquid diet for week one but went straight into solids full throttle during week 2. I did not eat as much as I would have normally for the holidays but more than I would have liked.

I had my first fill 4 weeks post op, I don't really feel it, but I did go to Mom's and had a normal sized meal it was roast beef carrots with on small potatoe and, I did what was suggested and started with the Protein, by the time I got to the potatoe I could only eat half of it, normally I would have 2nds, but I do not have a lot of restriction and was told not to expect that until around the 4th or 5th fill luckily my Dr. does them once every 2 weeks.

After the first fill, you might not even feel anything. The band does not restrict us from eating anything. The band is to dim our appetite for up to 4 hrs between meals, so that we do not eat/snack between meals. I am on my 5th fill, and if I don't watch myself I can over eat. Make sure to measure meals, and if you have to snack make healthier choices. WLS is by no means the easy way out. Hang in there. 1 fill might do it for you or not.... Some people lose without any fills! You don't want to over eat and stretch your band or get stuck. I have never experienced a stuck episode, and I hope to never. Good luck.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
