Tips, prayers and positive vibes! Getting sleeved tomorrow!

Recommended Posts

Good morning Pals!! I have surgery at 7:30 tomorrow morning. I didn't sleep most of the night, my stomach's been very upset, needless to say nerves have kicked in. Any tips on must-haves at the hospital, prayers and positive vibes are all welcome!

Just to be completely honest here, I was surprised at my post-op pain level. For some reason I went in to surgery thinking it wouldn't hurt. But on the bright side, it only took a couple of days before I felt much better, and I barely remember it now. So my advise is to hang in there! Everything gets better and easier really quickly, and it has all been very worth it at this point! Best of luck on your surgery!

So excited for you! I'll be praying for you today! I don't know from experience yet but I've read an extension cord is very helpful. I'm planning on taking a sleeping mask just in case and ear buds in case I don't have a private room or there's to much noise. Robe n slip on shoes for the many walks we'll be taking. Pillow for your tummy on the trip home. I have about an hour drive so I plan on taking a few zip lock bags in case I get nauseous. Biotene mouth spray n gas x strips. I'm taking my makeup I don't care what anyone says it make me feel better! Lip moisturizer or in my case lip gloss. Notebook n pens. I'm taking pajama pants and fuzzy socks to be cozy.

*These are all just random suggestions some people barely take anything at all. I'm taking more because my child was in the hospital a lot and I learned then that sometimes you never know when you are coming home or what you may need. I don't see anything wrong with taking extra stuff if you like. If you don't use it all no big deal! :) You're gonna do great!

You are gonna do great! This will transform your life. I had the sleeve on 12-23. Was scared and unsure. Everything went fine. Congratulations: this is the start of a whole new you! :D

Good Luck tomorrow!! It's hard not to be nervous, But you will do great!!

All I took with me was my phone and some real good lip balm. That's it!! I really needed the lip balm and was so thankful I had it. I used an extra gown to throw over my shoulders like a robe when I did my walking, which I very soon after being in my room and every couple hours after that. Grant it the first few times I didn't go to far but by the third time I was all the way around the floor. I also didn't need slippers or anything because the hospital puts on slipper socks, green, yellow or red depending on how you are allowed to get out of bed. I had green so I was good to go, and they have non slip on the bottom.

I am a big baby on pain so I was hitting my pain button every time it turned green. I really don't remember any pain, but just a little discomfort getting up and down out of bed. I slept on my side on that first night too. Hubby said it was because I was so drugged up. LOL I came home by dinner time the next day and never touched any of my pain meds at home. I couldn't believe it, cause when I say I am a baby I MEAN I am a BABY!! LOL ;)

Oh the other thing I took was my stomach stuffie my daughter and hubby had got for me before surgery. It was a nice comfort and a great conversation piece every time someone came in my room to check on me. :)

Let us know how it goes when you are able to!! Good luck on your journey!! Here's to a new you !!!

Sounds like you have everything covered! Just a word of advice with the lip balm. The hospital wouldn't let me use chapstick or any petroleum products because I was on oxygen until the morning after surgery. They were nice enough to give me some lip lotion stuff. Definitely not the same but better than nothing.

First congrats!!!!

My nerves didn't kick in til they strapped me to op table.

I brought my phone, Kindle, robe, and crochet. Never got to read or crochet.

I wore lose sweats, a t-shirt and my largest pair of granny panties to the hospital & that is what I went home in. I also brought my slippers, a brush and bobbie pins.

I had popsicles (sugar-free) waiting at home as well as sugar-free Jello to which I added some unflavored Protein. This, along with Water helped me stay hydrated.

My suggestions aren't exactly what stuff to bring, but to make your time after surgery more comfortable. I suggest that, before the surgery, tell the doctor you would like to get pain meds through your IV. I remember nurses bringing these very large pills and knew it would be very hard to get them down my throat.

Also, tell the dr. that you want the air pumped in to do the surgery removed before they close you up so you don't get gas pains.

I had my surgery on a Friday morning, by Sunday morning I felt almost as though nothing had happened! Everyone is different.

wear very loose sweats/lounge pants. I bought a bigger size to take to the hospital. Don't even bother with underwear for the ride home. you will be swollen and want to be as comfortable as possible. preferably drawstring rather than a band. They give you a second gown when you walk - don't bother with a robe. Other than chap stick, the only other thing I used was the gas X strips and my toothbrush. Odds are you will be home by dinner time the next day. You will sleep a lot. If you have Nurse Olivia, she is fabulous - she was my favorite. The pain is not that bad. I kept waiting for it to be worse and it never was. Stay positive!!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
