Is your S.O. Supportive

Recommended Posts

I'm coming to terms that having support at home is a wonderful thing but I will survive without it. My GF seems to think I will suddenly find a long lost love of all things Hetro! We have been together 14 years. 14!! I don't understand what her problem is. She keeps trying to tempt me with junk and telling me I'm just gonna wish i didn't do it. Oh and my personal favorite I won't be attracted to you. I am getting this WLS not to be "sexy" cause ask me I will tell you I still am! But because I miss doing what I love. Ridding horses. Hiking, fishing. I'm dying to do a mud run. And let's be honest the fat is killing me in high heels :0D #frustratedfemme

Started out a bit unsupported, but we talked through everything and he's come around to thinking this is a good thing for the both of us and is on board. I'm still worried that he'll not find me as attractive, but not worried enough to not go through with the surgery. While I am concerned about what I'll end up looking like, the main reason is I'm tired of not being able to go out and do things like horseback riding, biking and hiking. I don't want to have joint replacement surgery (like my mother) due to weight issues. I don't want to deal with high blood pressure or diabetes as I age and get fatter. I want to be healthy and get out there and enjoy life again!

I never had to deal with the outright sabotage you're dealing with, and I would definitely suggest sitting down with her (and maybe a counselor?) and talking through all of her worries and insecurities and how this is for your health and wellbeing. But her being that blatant about trying to mess up your weight loss speaks volumes about her being VERY insecure and possibly a red flag on the longevitity of your relationship after WLS if she doesn't come around and stop being a hinderance instead of supportive. So sorry you're dealing with this!

ETA: saw this in the recent posts before I noticed what forum section it was in; hope it was still okay to give an opinion!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
