How long before I can go to the gym?

Recommended Posts

While In the hospital the PT told me no treadmills, no walking in 32 F and under. Well, it's December in NH and it gets pretty darn cold lol

So I'm stuck? I need to walk, but no where to walk.

I tried waking inside the house, nope, I can't my 2 and 3 yr old want to follow me all over . Which I normally wouldn't care, but not when I'm trying to walk for 10 mi. YA know?

I need to get out and walk! I feel cabin fever setting in lol

Do you have a mall close by? Even if you don't want to buy anything, you sure can get some good walking in by going the length of most malls :)

I would also ask about a mall or indoor gym. I know prior to being discharged from my surgery 11-4 I managed to walk 1/2 mile the day after surgery in the halls and a full mile the day I went home. I kept track with a fitness tracker :) I am not allowed in the gym until after my 12-22 apt with the dr. If all looks ok he will give me the gym green light but not before.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
