Possible eating disorder

Recommended Posts

I had my rny in June of this year. I was doing fine until I had my gallbladder out in September. After that I developed an ulcer and heart trouble. I ended up getting a pacemaker. I did not gain any weight during this time. However, i am afraid I could be developing an eating disorder. I am now afraid to eat due to fear of gaining weight. I don't eat then go vomit like some with eating disorders. I am just down right afraid to eat. I basically just eat a Greek yogurt in the morning for Breakfast before I go to the gym, I have a lean cuisine for lunch, a Protein Shake because I need the Protein. That's pretty much it. I occasionally have a Protein Bar for dinner so I can get my 60 mg of protein in. I see my psychiatrist on the 7th of January and I plan on discussing this with him. Just wanted some opinions of others.

That sounds like a decent day of eating, but the fact that you recognize this concern is a good thing. I'm not qualified to say yes or no to a diagnosis of and ED, but definitely bring this up with your doc.

Overall sounds a lot like what I eat daily in quantity. That you are afraid to eat may be the problem, the emotional reasons behind your eating but I would not see this as uncommon, I am terrified of regaining and I am sure it keeps me on track with the food choices I make. I would like know what the psych. says I am seriously considering starting therapy myself.

I'm glad you're going to see the psych. You probably just need a little counseling to get you over the hump. Stay positive and keep in touch :)

I see a therapist for a number of issues, most of them surrounding the weight. It surely can't hurt to discuss your concerns and fears. I think any time we go through a life changing experience, seeing a professional is always a good idea. Good luck.

@@jtickle read up on bulimia and get help as fast as possible. I suffered with bulimia for years before I had my RNY. It was extremely difficult habit to break and the longer ingrained the habit is the harder it is to change. What really helped me way back then was Wellbutrin 200mg twice a day and gastric bypass.

I can appreciate your fear of eating, although with the sleeve what you are eating does not sound that horrible. I have found that when I go grocery shopping I am a little obsessive about how much I put in my cart because I'm afriad I might eat it all again like I used to. I have a weird eating issue developing the last few months too so I can also understand wondering if you might be developing an issue. For the most part I eat fine, but lately food that is dense in Protein makes me super sick. It is far easier to just go barf than to sit in misery for a few hours until it decides to settle. Usually I just lean over the sink, open my mouth, and it all comes spewing out (gross, yes I know) but sometimes that doesn't work so I make myself puke just to get the miserable feeling gone. I've never had issues with bullimia and I don't tend to think I do now, but being cognizant of the disorder and watching your activity to make sure you do not develop an eating disorder is a good idea. Seeing your therapist is also a great plan. Good luck!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
