New to forum, not to WLS

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I'm new to this forum but not to WLS. In September 2015, I'll be 6 years since WLS. I started a little less then 300 lbs at 5'2 wearing a size 48 in pants and I got down to 170 with the RYN procedure. Within the last five years I've gained back 15 lbs. which is Ok according to to my doctor. I'm currently in a size 34 pants, working towards a 32 by July 2015 which happens to my around my 50th birthday; OMG.

During these five WLS years, with all the energy I have, I've gone back to school a earned both a MBA and a DBA (Doctorates in Businesses Administration). I currently have a full-time career at a nuclear disposal facility and two part-time jobs (evenings as an adjunct Professor teaching Computers and Business classes and a weekend job as a cashier at a local convenience/gas station).

My workout consists of the elipical (30 min during lunch and late evening on week days) and playing racquetball (Wednesdays at 7pm and Saturdays at 10am). Here is where I answer "at night" to the question as to when I sleep.< /p>

I'm looking for a support group for older men (like me) who is at their "maintained stage" of WLS. I believe support groups are very important. I'm also looking to find other men to encourage them on their WLS. I'll also help anyone who asks.

Thanks

RlopezNM

Try posting veterans or men's support area. Congratulations on your success! I'm astonished at your energy level and I'm hoping for some of that. I do believe my weight and lack of energy has seriously held me back in my career.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
