how long is the Gastric Sleeve surgery ?

Recommended Posts

This brings me to my other post on a different thread. The only testing I had done was an EKG, chest xr, and bloodwork. I didn't have an endoscopy, or ultrasound or cat scan... What if he sees something while he in there?? Are there signs/symptoms of a hernia?

If he sees something more than likely he'll repair it while he's there. They didn't catch my dad's hernia and repaired it while they performed his bypass. The main symptom of hiatal hernia's are reflux or heartburn.

Different doctors have different protocols. I didn't have a EDG , but I did have chest xray and an upper GI.

I was out of my room for 2 1/2 hours, but the actually surgical time was like 45 min. The rest was chatting with the anesthesiologist, induction, surgical prep, closing incisions, and recovery.

5 1/2 hours!! No, I didn't die and was brought back. I had lots of scar tissue from four previous surgeries. She had to remove all or I guess a lot before she could begin. So, as you can see every situation is different.

Anesthesiologist told me yesterday that it typically takes my surgeon around an hour, but since i'm having two hernias repaired, it would be 2-2.5 hours.

My Dr. said to expect an hour for surgery time, but much longer for the whole shebang with recovery time.

My surgeron told me a little over an hour but when we got to the hospital they told my family three hours with recovery time included. That ended up being about right. I believe my actual time in surgery was 90 minutes. Good luck on your surgery next week!

Not sure how long mine was but I am guessing over 2 hours. He had to remove the lapband and repair the hiatal hernia.

Are you factoring in the time spent pre-op waiting around as part of the time? I don't know how long the actual surgery was (and I went in by myself, so no one was around to tell me how long they waited), but I spent about 45 minutes in the staging area before they put the IV in me and wheeled me into the actual OR. I think the actual surgery was a couple hours. Then post surgery, I had to wait another hour in recovery until a room was free for me.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
