Hurts more than I thought

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on Dec 3. I had a large hiatal hernia repair as well as sleeve. I also had a lot of nausea in the hospital. I was released yesterday and had such a hard time sleeping and bad shoulder pain. Doing a bit better today, got some nausea meds for at home so I am more comfortable since I feel better taking my pain pills. Also really working in my fluids but harder than I thought. My question is to those that had hiatal hernia surgery as well did you feel like you had more pain than you thought? Mine was a fairly large size hernia. I am so glad to have it repaired! I am also walking a lot too. This is such a supportive board!

I just had my surgery on the 3rd too. Also had a hiatal hernia repaired. Left shoulder pain has been almost unbearable for three days now. I've been walking around the block three times a day and doing small arm circles while walking. I think it's helping because the pain seems to be getting better. Only taking my pain meds at night just to make sure I sleep good. Good luck in your weight loss journey.

I had thane shoulder pain when I had my lapband seven years ago. Rocking in my rocking chair really helped. Of course put a pillow across the tummy when you do it. That really helped. My sisters a nurse and had the same pain with her bypass ( the same day( :) she came up with that idea. We also walked around the block .

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
