My Quirks, My Quirks, My Lovely Sleeved Quirks.

Recommended Posts

So as some of you **MAY** know, I've chosen the path of telling a few people about my WLS but not everyone. (No, this is NOT another thread about that lovely topic, just setting the scene.)

One of my new "quirks" is how bizarre I'm sure I appear to both people who know and do not know about my surgery with my propensity to ALWAYS ask for a to go box. I don't think people necessarily notice how little I eat at a sitting, but they do seem to notice how little the serving I am taking home is. Yes (dammit!), it's only three or four bites. Yes, it's only one chicken strip. Yes, it's only two pieces of sushi and a few edamame pods but YES!! I want a box. That's an entire meal for me.

At home, I go through so many more sandwich bags than I used to. I put the last three bites of a wrap in the fridge, the last two shrimp, the last couple of tablespoons of refried Beans, NOTHING goes to waste. My husband no longer scrapes a bowl of anything into the trash unless it's a starch because he has finally learned.

These are my favorite Walmart purchase now:

My other weird quirk? Asking my kids if I'm THAT lady's size. How about her? Her? HER! Look at her butt, is mine bigger? Smaller? Look at hers and look at mine. How about if I go stand next to her so you can compare better? My husband likes the game, my kids barely humor me. HA!

Those containers are perfect size! I've tried to get my mom to automatically get a to go box when she goes out because she is a hopeless member of the clean plate club. But alas, 70+ years of eating every last bite is a hard habit to break.

I'm single so at least part of anything I buy ends up in the freezer. (Do you know how long it would take me to eat a pork loin or loaf of bread or a pound of burger or a batch of Protein pancakes?!?) I was sick of everything ending up with freezer burn, so I bought a food saver vacuum sealer last week. LOVE my new toy. I even got the zip lock bags that you can vacuum and reuse over and over for things you access a lot, like cheese....no more moldy cheese because it takes me two weeks to eat a chunk. But my dogs are sad....They are getting a lot less leftovers.

I don't save anything that isn't a big hunk of meat. I won't eat it. Then again I live alone. I'm just sick of throwing out containers and baggies of food! What a waste. Most of the time unless it is meat I don't take left overs.

I always ask myself if I am or was a certain person's size. That habit started long before surgery when I would use comparison to determine if I was THAT FAT or THAT FAT or NOT THAT FAT. It's crazy, but over time I have stopped doing it.

I do find myself trying to compare my body to others in a store or on the street. It's not out of trying to compete with people. It's out of I have no idea how I look. I want to see If I'm a normal size compared to others.

Great find on the cups. They are now so mine...... Off to Walmart

I just explain at restaurants that I eat 5 small meals a day and don't want to ruin my eating plan by eating the whole plate. People think I'm a master of control. LOL.

I literally LAUGHED OUT LOUD! Lol I also play the "that size" game. I think we go through our lives with a different image than what others see, so it's a good reference exercise. And I'm the opposite when dining out because even healthy choices come in huge portions. I eat 3 bites of a salad and then box the rest. I know my people are thinking I'm taking this "diet thing" too far. (I haven't told anyone either) When I go out with my husband and kids I don't bother to order. I just eat one bite off of each of their plates and drink Water. We're saving money and they're ok with it, now. I always enjoy your posts... ????

notice how little the serving I am taking home is

@@LipstickLady

soooo many people take food home in a container

instead of eating those large portions

feeling self-conscious about taking a small portion home???

a little funny???

Get Over It!! :D

when i'm done ordering i say

"please give me a to go box when you BRING me my meal"

I don't want any excess food on my plate

would rather put it away immediately

couldn't/wouldn't eat - still don't want it around

don't think any explanations are necessary

i might get a funny look

(that happens to me anyways  )

i put my food on a small "bread" plate (more games we play ;) )

@@Kindle luv luv luv your food saver vacuum sealer idea :)

i'm going to find it in a store with hubby this weekend

maybe Kohl's???

I will keep talking/mentioning/suggesting how great "it" (the vacuum sealer) sounds

i'm as subtle as a brick

and guess what...........surprise, surprise

it will be under the tree next month!!!! :o;)

one year i bought/wrapped a sweater for myself

gave it to hubby to put under tree for me from him

ahhhh yes, the games i enjoy playing ;)

those are some of my quirks

film at 11:00 LOL :D

Everything about me is a little left of center. I doubt anyone would blink an eye at me doing something like that.

I'm the fat vegetarian.

The gal with purple dredlocks

The gal with multiple allergies. Seriously I had to ask someone in the grocery store to go get me a box of Pasta once because they were too close to the seafood department.

I'm the fat chick who always thought I was cute. ALWAYS.

I went through a bento making phase so I have all sorts of tiny containers.

I say long live the quirks, they are what makes us special and unique!

Oh and I just ordered these for the car and busy days running errands to avoid temptation. They come in smaller and larger sizes and are interchangeable.

I have a drawer full if egg molds and mini cookie cutters and a variety of bento boxes. I don't have the skill for the really cuties ones, but I made a few nice ones I actually took pictures of, including one where I finally mastered vegetable sushi.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
