"What if there were a natural disaster?" No access to Protein or Vitamins!

Recommended Posts

If the zombie apocalypse were to happen tomorrow, I would be hosed. Absolutely hosed. I do not stockpile anything. My husband stockpiles chocolate. And pop tarts. And sardines. Ick. But I am not a Protein hoarder. I like to go to the store weekly and buy what I need when I need it.

I hoard beef Jerky. Seriously. I have tried all brands from the cheap to the most expensive out there and my favorite is the Walmart Sweet and Spicy. They are often out, so when I see it, I buy 5 or 6 bags at a time. I think I have half a cow in my pantry right now.

I've never tried beef Jerky. It just seems like a terrible thing to do to delicious beef. I want my beef done medium rare with a side of asparagus drizzled in olive oil and Parmesan.

Oh my goodness me too!!! They discontinued my favorite and so I keep a HUGE stockpile of my next best just in case! My family teases me about it all the time!

Ha ha! Well, it much easier to throw into a lunchbox for a car drive or keep in the glove compartment for emergencies!

What's your favorite? And which was discontinued?

I'm laughing so hard right now, but at me, not you - I used to think about this all the time when I was on the DS track.

If we had a natural disaster, I would secretly covet whatever junk food I could get my hands on. I mean, it's for survival, right? ;)

Oberto makes a line specifically for costco called Pacific Gold. I LOVED their Teriyaki Turkey Jerky. Apparently I didn't buy enough to convince them to keep making it all by myself. The Teriyaki Beef is a close second and it's what I buy now.

I am old farm girl, so I could do better than some folks I know - so long as the disaster didn't kill all of the livestock. If there is a person stronger than me around who do the caveman thing with capturing and dressing the Protein, I could do the processing and campfire cooking. I would be hard put to eat maggots, but I can bait one on a hook and go fish.

As for the Medical ID Bracelet, I do have one with the cross and cadeuces on it. It is engraved with my first name and Gastric Sleeve Patient - No NG. Inside a flip latch is my other medical info and the hospital that carries my medical records, my doctor's name, my meds, my blood type and emergency contacts. I have aleady had a stroke, so in case I am unable to speak for myself again, I will at least have the ID bracelet.

I guess that comes from my years in Girl Scouts and 4H. Always be prepared. It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

@@LipstickLady, please elaborate on your no intubation after VSG comment. I've never heard that before. Thanks.

It's not intubation we have to worry about (that's just a short tube that goes into your trachea). It's the blind nasogastric tube that's the problem.....If they pass it without a scope, down your esophagus and expecting a full size stomach at the other end.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
