How much you can pack into a pair of pants....

Recommended Posts

Isnt it amazing how much you can pack into a pair of pants? I have lost 24 pounds and you would think that I would need to run out and buy something to wear....but noooooooooo......the old ones still fit. They dont fit as well of course but geesh. I did finally get into a pair of slacks that I havent been able to wear in 2 yrs so that was good but I put on a pair of jeans that I wore when I was 24 pounds heavier and they fit great. Makes me wonder what I looked like before when I was cramming all that extra pounds into them. Things that make you go ewwwwwwwww. LOL. Have a great day all!!!

Susan great post. I had lost 60 lbs and in September bought some new clothes. In the meantime put on about 35 and was still wearing the same pants! Nothing like feeling like an overstuffed sausage! Now that I lost 25 lbs they are definitely better, but it still amazes me that I was able to breathe!!!

It is a great post...in fact my mom and I were just talking about this yesterday...she mentioned the fact that she didnt understand commercials or magazine articles that had people saying I lost 15 pounds and 8 sizes!!!!! She stated the same thing...she said I can lose a LOT of weight and still fit into the same clothes....and not be able to change sizes...I guess it is good that we dont have to go buy new clothes every ten pounds, but it does make you wonder what you really look like stuffing in 25 pounds more that before...but then again, you dont just loose in your pant area...sooooooo.....My pants are falling off of me at 35 pound loss, but I refuse to go buy new clothes yet...good thing for elastic waist bands!!!!! Good luck to you...Deanna

I think weight gets redistributed too. You can gain 15 lbs and put it all on in your butt and thighs, then lose 15 lbs and it could come off somewhere else (like your arms and upper body), but your bottom half stays the same. It sucks.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could decide where the lost weight would come off? lol! lol! I've lost 15 lbs and stuff just gets baggier and baggier on top. I still have my major problem area (my gut) which hasn't really changed at all. Meanwhile my chest (of course), arms and upper body is slimming down. I can't really change sizes yet. In facts, I'm at a stage where stuff actually works worse on me right now. ;)

It is funny about those commericals! Its not that I want to go buy new clothes everytime I drop a few pounds but well..I guess I was just excited and had unreal expectations when it came to clothes. Its funny because when I was putting away the winter clothes I packed up all the ones that I just "know" I wont be able to wear this winter. I have to go to IA in June and am going to take them to a friend....so I have the pressure of losing because I wont have anything to wear when the first snow flake falls LOL.

It seems that my pants are too big in the butt and legs...and do fit much better in the waist but the weight around the waist isnt going like it is in other places. I know that is normal but at this moment I hate normal ;)

Good Luck to you all and thanks for responding.

Susan

I am kind of going to be all over the state. Going to Des Moines and then to Iowa City, Marion and parts still unknown LOL. I am geographically challenged so not sure where the New Hampton area is.

I live in Iowa City. :(

New Hampton is in the northeastern part of the state. Jackie, who did your surgery? I had mine done in Grinnell.

They say the first place you put on weight is usually the last place you take it off. I always put on weight in my abdomen and of course it's the last place that it comes off. I've been there done that with the baggy-butt and legs look. Hopefully, I lose the gut and I'm planning on a belt lipectomy 6 months to a year down the road. Thank goodness for plastic surgery!

its so funny that you started this thread. I am wondering the same thing. I have lost 50 lbs and altho my clothes are a bit on the loose side, I can still wear my same jeans and tops. I will say my shoes are alot looser so I guess I lost most of my weight in my big toe :)

Oh I so hope that by the time I lose 50 lbs that I cant get into the clothes I have now. They look funny on me just from losing in my butt, hips and leg area. I also have to go bra shopping today or I am going to have to stuff the ones I have LOL. Hmmm on second thought might not be a bad idea...might make my tummy look smaller LOL.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
