Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Good morning gang! I am up a bit early. Last night (or this morning) at 3am, I got up, took a pain pill--I'm on Dilaudid. It really helped. I don't get groggy from it, just relaxed and the pain goes away. I also finished off a Muscle Milk that I had.

Today will be a milder day compared to yesterday. I really intend on just relaxing a bit. I actually get to take a shower today, too. Yeah! Now I can get this sticky stuff off from the IV bandages.

Aunt Flo kicked into overdrive during my hospital stay. I'm sure the heparin shots had a lot to do w/that. It was just a bit yucky. But I managed.

Everyone seems to be doing well, even w/all our aches and pains. That is so great!!!

Well, I'll check back later.

Hi Chimboree, I am up also. I think I just did too much yesterday so I will take it easy today. I can't go outside and walk. It is raining all day today...dreary day. I am sore this am but slept really great. I took tylenol. If it doesn't help I will take my pain med. No need trying to be stoic. I am sipping on my carnation instant Breakfast now. I haven't tried adding the Protein Powder yet...takes too much effort.

Caolin, seems to me you are feeling very well. I meant to answer the other day about cpap. I have had one for about 2 years. You get used to it pretty quick and now I don't like sleep without it. I can, but like Jeanie, I sleep better and feel better with it.

Jeanie, we will be chatting alot now that I am off work too. Have to check in with this group often or there is so much to read.

Chim, will you do a final calendar after the end of July so we have a final list of everyone who had surgery? I would appreciate it.

NewCC, I am sorry you are so nauseated. They used Zophran on me and I had no nausea.

Ruby, hope you are feeling well today.

Jainie, I don't know if I could stick to such a strict diet. I have 2 weeks full liquids, 1 week mushies, and then solids.

Lynette, hope you get that computer working. Now that I am going to be available frequently, I was looking forward to chatting with you.

Dini, Marcy, Tinkerbell and all the rest of you... GOOD MORNING!!!

Hi all you July Bandsters!

I am Jenny and had the surgery on Thursday, 7/26. I usually just come on these boards and read, very rarely posting. I just didn't feel like I could offer too much support until I actually knew what I was dealing with. So, I'm here now and I hope I am welcome. Surgery went well. They started the surgery at about 9:30am and I was home by 3pm. They only problems I've had is gas and pain in the entire surgery area. So far, so good. I'll try to get to know each and everyone of you over the coming days.

Good morning Sunny and JennyL! I hear ya about the soreness. That's the worst part for me, unless I drink too much and get the uncomfortable feeling in the center of my chest. I've learned to slow down, so hopefully I've nipped that in the bud.

Yes, m'am Sunny, I will be updating our calendar. I hope to get us a new one tomorrow. I'll be going back to work on Monday. Booo...I don't want to go, but just b/c I don't like my job too much. I should be fine, pain/surgery wise.

Well, I'm off to go take my shower and then to eat my breakfast. Cream of Wheat this morning.

Later gators!

Hey all. I had my surgery yesterday. Im feeling really crappy. When i first woke from the anaesthetic i was very emotional and in a lot of pain. The anaesthestist gave me two shots of morphine which was reluctant to work but did in the end. Had a crap nights sleep, awake asleep awake.......

Discharged this morning and had a nap, lying down, which was a mistake so now i have wind pains in my left shoulder:cry . I got up and made a smoothie, which was ok, actually i need to look u some nice recipes for same.

I have horrible pain also at my port site, and i cant take a big deep breath or cough as the port is catching in my rib :help:.

But after all the moaning im glad i got this done. I just cant wait for the next few days to be over:amen:

I know. I wish I could take more days off, but to be honest, I can't afford to. I think I'll be okay, though. I have a desk job and don't have to move around a bunch or lift anything. Sooo...we'll see. If I have to leave early, then I will. I won't force myself to stay if I'm uncomfortable. Health and safety first, right???

Alesha, I am sorry you are feeling so bad. I felt pretty good the day after surgery. I think I did too much so now I a really sore. Hope you feel better as the day progresses.

Jeanie,

This is a great day to nap and read. However, I really need to walk some and can't do that in the rain. Maybe I will get my son to go to Walmart with me and I can walk there. I cleaned out the refrigerator and bought stuff for me and now there is no food for my mother or son. Tell me who I was thinking about before surgery:) Where did you say you lived?

Chim, my doc doesn't even want me driving until maybe Monday. He wants to see me in the office on Thursday. I guess we will talk about work then. I asked for 2 weeks off.

Yes, I'm still at my parents' house. It does make a major difference. I can't imagine having just gone home by myself. I did enjoy my shower. It was great!!!! I was so happy and feel so much better just from that.

Thanks for the encouragement. Today will be a much slower day than yesterday. I will be definitely taking it easy. Stomach is still sore. I have an ice pack that helps. For me, I find the most difficult part is getting in and out of the bed/and or the car. We use our ab muscles for a lot, huh???

Wow. I'm jealous. 2 weeks off sounds great!!! Wal-mart sounds like a great plan for walking. I have to go for my follow-up on Thursday. Even w/this soreness, I am so excited about my Band! Bandolina is here! Yay!

Jennyl, welcome! You will love it here, everyone is so nice and the support you get is priceless.

Dmjet, enjoy your day 'off'!

Sunshine- I am sore too, just telling myself it will pass soon and I will so happy and healthy. My dr. told me not to drive until Tuesday, which works for me, I need some R&R time.

Chim- I also hurt when getting up and in/out of the car.

Last night DH and I went for a walk around the block and it was great. sleep wasn't so great. I hate sleeping on my back and was afraid the cats would climb on my tummy. One of them made herself comfortable between my legs and stayed there all night. I got up every 3 hours for my pain medicine, I don't do well with pain and enjoy 'drugs' very much  Now this morning I crushed my pills and they tasted nasty, so I ate jell-o right after and that made it bearable. I have not eaten anything but jell-o and sugar free popsicles for 2 days now and am not hungry, so I will just enjoy the feeling while it lasts. I don't think I had more than 150 cal. yesterday and I am not cranky or anything, boy I love this band already!!!!:whoo: Now I am thinking I am going to have some chicken broth today to get some nutrition in, even though I am taking Vitamins it seems to me I will get mal-nourished on jell-o only.

I have set the timer for 60 minutes intervals, this way I know when to get up and walk around for a bit. I have an ice pack on my tummy and a heating pad on my shoulder. Nothing hurts badly at all, but again I am not one for pain.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
