Hello,

I am scheduled to have surgery on May 21st! I am excited, but a little scared. Not sure what to expect. This is my question..........how bad is the pain during recovery? Is it reasonable to expect to go back to work in a couple of days instead of taking a whole week off?

I have been reading alot of the threads and I identify with so many of you. My difference is that I have had a previous gastric bypass about 13 years ago. I feel like such a loser for gaining the weight back! - but am blessed with two beautiful daughters to show for it! I have been struggling with feeling selfish for wanting this surgery so bad - I am a self pay. My husband said we will just have to treat it like a car payment and my life is more important. - I hope he still feels that way after a few years of payments! lol

Well, if any of you have had a prior gastric bypass or if anyone has any thoughts for me, I welcome the comments. Hope everyone is having a great day!

Christy

Aweeee...what a nice hubby...sounds like mine...ANYTHING for me...we refinanced our house for this surgery...course he got a boat and trailer too!!! So, it wasnt like he didnt get anything..LOL...It is soooooo good to have support in your life...it is hard enough with all the other things to deal with, the one person who means the most to you is willing to put it all down and out for you to get healthy is soo awesome....I dont know about the work part as I am currently a full time student and did not have to go back to class after my surgery because of a VERY awesome teacher.... Welcome to LBT! You aren't the first person to have the gastric bypass and gain the weight back, and you certainly won't be the last. Everything doesn't work for everyone.

There is a lot of information for you to read on here just for taking the time to read it all.

Good Luck with your surgery!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
