How do they diagnose pouch dialation?

Recommended Posts

How is pouch dialation diagnosed? Does it have to be under Flouro, or will an xray or ultrasound show it? What about a barium swallow? Just curious cause I feel like I can eat more than usual lately. I don't have reflux or any other symptoms. I do have (just started today) a sort of "pinching" feeling where the band is...not the port...I think the actual band. I am at 2.75 cc in a 4cc capacity band.

Sometimes I still have excellent restriction and sometimes not, so I'm not sure what's going on. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I can't answer you question, but I do know that the band is finicky. I have great restriction some days, then bamb, nothing at all. I actually made an appointment for another fill, and after I made my appointment, I now have restriction. Go figure?

Anyhow, I'm not sure how they detect pouch dialation, but I will be anxious to see what answers you get.

I'm not entirely sure but a barium swallow/meal would show up a dilated pouch. I had one done for a different reason yesterday and it showed up the pouch beautifully. However it was a disgusting experience and I hope never to need one again!

It's usually diagnosed by a barium swallow with fluoroscopy, but I don't know if there are other methods as well. Sunshine is correct -- the band is finicky and seems to have a mind of its own. Some days it's tight, some days not.

Varja. I have LAP Band, filled almost maximally, but I don't loose weight. After the operation (Nov. 06) I lost 16 pounds, i got back 8 pounds. I do not know what to do.

I have a pinching feeling around my band, too. I can't find much info about this situation either  I was just banded 1 month ago and have lost 24 lbs. I see the dr. in 2 days but this feeling just started  Wondering what it is.....

I have the pinching feeling as well. It started out that every once in a while I felt like something was poking me from the inside. I told my doctor, he felt around and didn't feel anything out of place. I have never PB so he didn't think anything about it. Now I have the pinching feeling all the time. I also have very sore stomach muscles in the front where my diaphram is. It feels like I have over exercised, but I've had it for almost three weeks now. There is a hard knot of muscle there as well. Can you get a hernia there? I go to see the doc on the 9th. I'm a little worried as well.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
