Lifting

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd get some input... my post op instrustions say not to lift over 25lbs for at least 2 weeks after surgery. Well I have a 15 month old and I have to get him in and out of my car. He's 24lbs.. so I'm actually right under the 25 mark.. My question is, does anyone know if I could "tell" if I've lifted to much? He's the only thing I have lifted and my husband does it when he can... but he's not there all the time.

I think you'll find that it is mostly a matter of pain.

The issue I would be aware of when lifting your son is that it's a reaction to pull away when you touch a hot stove, right? Same concept applies here. If you go to lift him and it is painful you might have a natural reaction to pull away and there is a little more chance of dropping him. Just take things verrrry slow and easy.

A friend was banded in February and she did things with her 14 month old such as getting a step stool and if she wanted to be held my friend taught her before surgery to climb up on the step stool and then up to the couch where Mom was sitting. She said it worked quite well. That didn't help when it came to the changing table though. Just think about those kinds of things and how you can make it easier on yourself.

A step stool is a great idea. I could keep it in the car and take it out for him to get in and out!

The changing table would be an issue in the mornings BUT I could change him on the floor with a towel down (that's what I did this morning).

Thank you so much!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
