I know this sounds stupid, but one of my biggest fears about being banded and working with children is catching a belly bug and vomiting...what happens? I would assume that puking while banded is NOT good...Does anyone have any insight?!?! Hahaha...paranoia?I think so!

I worry about this too - primarily because I am a great big baby over vomiting, I'm terrified of it. And I'm worrying about finishing my degree, qualifying as a primary teacher, beginning work and coming down with every disgusting disease known to modern man, constant headlice included.

Although I've had 3 children, been through them all starting school and daycare, returned to work after my first child to a doctor's surgery, put the two boys through a large long daycare facility, so I'm really really hoping my immunity is pretty good now. By 40 you've had a fair few bugs, colds and coughs.

Just as an aside, I find it really strange how you guys all call stomach bugs "flu". Influenza is a respiratory disease, how do you come to call gastroenteritis viruses flu? I'd love to know the connection.

After you heal its really persistant vomiting that makes the band slip. Sometimes the doctor gives the patients some anti-nausea meds to take at home just in case. Early vomiting is bad, but occasional vomiting doesn't usually dislodge the band.

A worry of mine, as well! I meant to ask about this at my last appt. I have three kids and a couple of times each year, we all get the barfies. For some reason, I am always hit hard with it, but my husband manages to escape. Ugh.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
