Help me! Can't stop eating!

Help! Eating everything in sight. Started yesterday when I got upset about something and now can stop. Please share with me how you handle you emotional eating. I have never been one of those who do not eat when upset.

I need new coping skills. I don’t smoke anymore and want a cigarette so bad (I will not go back there).

Any thoughts on what can be done in a split second to calm yourself?

Write/journal, pray, take a walk, make a phone call, take a shower/bath, go to the bathroom, do something with your hands (crochet, knit, needlepoint), clean the bathroom, take a nap, pay bills, run an errand, clean out a drawer, ...

When I start eating for stress related issues, I leave the kitchen and pick up a craft to keep my hands and mind busy. If that doesn't help, I get online and surf this site for encouragement.

Go for a walk, eat healthier things, fruit, veggies, gym. Think about how far you've come, we all have bad days, just limit them. ????

Go for a walk. I used to smoke outside do walking was my best new tool to deal with stress. I took up painting too.

All the listed suggestions are perfect. The only thing I can add is that I take a drive....sometimes a very long drive...and not down the main street where all the foodie places are...lol. If therapy is an option for your health plan, I recommend it. It doesn't have to be food specific - but learning different coping mechanisms in general is a great idea. If that's not an option - buddy up with someone here who can talk you through times like these....via private email, text messaging, etc. Be strong and be encouraged.

Brush your teeth. I never want to eat after brushing. You can even brush them many times a day with no issues. =)
