Hunger and no fill yet

Recommended Posts

Three weeks in and I don't get a fill for a couple weeks. Definitely feeling hungry but am satisfied with much smaller portions. How hungry were you guys before your first fill? I am trying not to panic

I'm the same way, going on 4 weeks post op w/ first fill 11/09, I get full faster but I am hungry like normal. Making sure to eat my Protein first and picking healthy options. I'm eating off a salad plate and another user recommended baby silverware, it helps. Good luck!

I know how you feel. I am 4 months out and still get hungry. I need to ask myself if I am really hungry or if it's just head hunger. Every fill I get helps me out a little more. Hang in there.

I was banded in August and just recently had my 5th fill. I can say with certainty that the 5th fill put the damper on my hunger finally. Until then it was literally white knuckle not to eat like the old me. I can make it thru from meal to meal and thoughtfully eat without just gorging because I would be so hungry.

Hi there,

I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and I do get hungry at times ~ but the small portions do feel me up. I'm looking forward to eating some real food instead of the mashed foods. I'm a little nervous about getting a fill, are you? Keep in touch and we can help each other out

Getting my first fill on Tuesday next week and I am a bit nervous but hoping that it puts the damper on my hunger. I finally stopped eating puréed foods and started eating regular food just chewing very well hoping this would help the hunger but not really. No problems with vomiting or pain.

I was banded in September and seven weeks post op and fight with my hunger everyday. I am going for my third fill tonight and can't wait. I need to be able to control my portion sizes. I have most definitely changed my way of eating but can still eat a normal portion (all be it slower) with ease. I was starting to think that the band wasn't working for me and couldn't believe that after waiting for weight loss it wasn't happening.

I feel guilty when I go back for my fills and I haven't lost anything since the last one. I lost 14lbs in my first week post op and then only two pounds since. I keep asking myself what am I doing wrong lol.

I know this is a process until you get to the point where the fills are working for you but how frustrating it is waiting lol.

Anyway hopefully tonight the fill will plug me up finally lol

Love this site because it helps me to keep positive. It has to work one day :)

had my first fill two days ago. Banded Aug 13. I was so nervous the nurse said I made her nervous. She listened to me that I needed distracted and as I laid down on the bed discussed shopping etc. a small pike and it was over. She was fantastic

When I first got banded in April, 2013 I had what I called phantom hunger pains. I had some problems with the fills, choking and throwing everything up. Finally things calmed down and have found the right fill amount. I have lost 80 pounds which is slow but considering I am a diabetic on 2 insulins, it is still progress. Remember the band is just a tool and you will find the right amount for the fill to satiate the hunger pains...phantom hunger pains ;)...It also helps to plan and measure your meals...Best wishes! Carol

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
