I've Only Lost 4 lb 1st Week - Did Any of You Lose That Little?

Recommended Posts

Loss 4lbs in 10 days! Had to lose 12 lbs of Fluid weight they sent me home with. For me the loss has been slow, even my surgeon feels so, but I'm eternally grateful for EVERY SINGLE OUNCE!!!! Don't get discouraged.

I didn't weigh myself for the first four weeks. Weighing yourself a lot and comparing yourself to other people will rob you of the joy you deserve in this process IMO.

Didn't weight myself for the first month, after a month I had lost 15 pounds, sadly since then I've only lost .2 of a pound in the last three weeks. Guess it's called a stall. I would chose a day and weight myself once a week on that day!

PLEASE....do me 2 favors. First put that scale away. You are setting yourself up for numbers being the main issue here. Which it is not. Your health is and so it would be less sabotaging if you weighed once a month for now!

Second take four lbs of butter. Place them on your counter. Stack them up and then lift them up. That is the weight you lost in one week. Not to shabby if you ask me...It is not a matter of losing slowly or fast or like Jill or Jim. This is your life, your body and you will lose according to how your body responds.

For now concentrate on getting better and letting your body heal. there is a lot of stuff in your system that is working its way out..Your body will protect itself until it can no longer. If you see it that way...Well your right on course...:)

I am 20 weeks out from RNY, and have lost 75 lbs, which is a average of 3.75 lbs per week. Some weeks I've lost more, some weeks I've stalled and lost nothing. Don't let slow weeks get you down. Just keep you eye on the end result, stick to your plan, and it will all come off in the end.

I weighed infrequently the first several months, but here are the numbers I found on old posts....

Day 7 gained 5 pounds from surgery weight

Day 11 same as surgery day (I normally wouldn't weigh this soon after the last weigh in but it was New Years Day and I wanted a 2014 starting weight for posterity)

7 weeks out down 17 pounds from surgery

3 months out down 31 pounds from surgery

I am Currently 10 1/2 months out and down a total of 101 pounds (including the 22 pounds I lost on preop). Have been maintaining under goal weight for almost 4 months.

So a slow start does not reflect your long term success. For the best experience, I suggest staying off the scale for 2-3 months. Just have faith in the process.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
