Sharp pain under left rib for 24 hours - 5 months out

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody.

I was sleeved a little over 5 months ago. Yesterday, in the afternoon, I developed a sharp pain under my bottom left rib. It felt like gas maybe, but I've been walking and moving and the pain has not moved. I've tried going #2 as well, which didn't relieve the pain. It is sharp and has been in the same place for an entire day. It's not unbearable (I came to work today), I have no fever or other symptoms.

There was a moment yesterday when I ate too many Nut-Thin crackers and it made me nauseous. The pain seemed to start after that. Is this familiar to anyone?

I'm interested to hear as well. I'm only about 1.5 weeks out and I'm having a sharp pain in the left rib as well. It doesn't appear to be anywhere near an incision.

I think if you are experiencing PAIN and not discomfort you need to speak to your surgeon.

I was a month post op and got pain in my shoulders. I continued my day at work (somehow, not sure how), went home and went straight to bed. I was miserable. Woke up the next morning, went to the ER, within an hour, I was in emergency surgery. I had a perforation. The 2nd surgery was 10x worse than the sleeve. If you have ANY pain that far our, you need to see your surgeon.

OMG. I'm five months out and I had this same exact thing happen last weekend. So weird. No idea what it was I just kept telling myself it was just built up gas from something.

Also...I just posted about needing to talk to someone who had surgery around the time I did and who is still losing weight on a regular basis. If you are willing to talk to me and answer some questions let me know!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
