Running and triathlons after the lap band

Recommended Posts

I haven't gotten mine done yet still three more months of weigh inn for me but I do have more questions. I run now I have run a bunch of 1/2 marathons and have done serval triathlons and would still like to continue doing these things (especially since I will be loading weigh and it will be nice doing these things without all the extra weigh!!!). I was wondering if any of you have done these after the surgery (and I know not right After). I want to run my first marathon in my 40s (I turn in May and am thinking OF doing nyc marathon in 2015) which is why I'm asking if anyone does these and how is that going. I'm nervous because they say you can't chug Water and I know sometimes without thinking I do b

I've had my band for almost a year. I've exercised the whole time and just got into running. Ran a 10K last week! I love it! I don't have any problems drinking large mouthfuls of Water. I think it will depend on how tight you keep your band. I'm looking to run the mini marathon in my city in April. It will be the day before my 42nd birthday. Keep at it!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
