Constant UTI's 10 months post op!

Recommended Posts

The last 5 months I've been getting UTI's for 2 days every other month, treated with over the counter meds. This month I got 2 UTI's 1 week apart! I'm pretty sure it's because I'm not eating or drinking enough so my body isn't flushing out the bad bacterias. My problem is, eating solid foods hurts my stomach, just a few bites and it feels like I ate a pound of food, so most days I'd rather not eat at all then get a stomach ache. I can go days without eating so I am worried my little stomach has gotten even smaller due to lack of food.

Has this happened to anyone else?

IF you aren't doing this already, eat VERY small bites and wait between each bite. I think you should call your surgeon and get a referral to a good urologist.

You do not want to get Renal deficiency which you could get due to UTI's and dehydration-Go see a DR as soon as you can

The bladder is a sterile environment. There is no bacteria that is ordinarily present; when there is, that's what a UTI is. Sometimes over the counter meds and lots of fluids can fix the problem, but when the infection rears itself mutiple times, it was not cured the first time with your treatment of choice.

Dehydration makes it worse because the urine is concentrated more. Save yourself a bunch of problems and head to the doctor. That infection has not and will not go away without antibiotics; you've already tried and it didn't work. A simple UTI can travel upwards beyond the bladder and end up in your kidneys, which will result in an admission to the hospital. Take care of yourself and feel better soon.

I have been there. It is awful. Eventually they were all kidney infections.

Could you be getting interstitial cystitis and not UTI's? A true UTI would need antibiotics. If u treated it with OTC products, it either didn't go away or you didn't have a UTI. Google it to read about it. I suffer from it and have to pay attention to what triggers it.

Hi noragretz, I saw you have interstitial cystitis. I do too. I had my vsg surgery in October. I am beginning to have IC symptoms. I worry about the Vitamins Did you have any IC issues after your surgery. If so, what triggered them. I am so scared I will go back to those days of pain

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
