How much do you walk?

Recommended Posts

I am almost 1 week post op just wondering how much everyone walks or what my goals should be?

I know it's different for each person, but just trying to get a general sense!

Thanks

at least 5 minutes for every hour sitting to avoid blood clots. your energy level at this point is reallllly low so just focus on your Protein and Water intake and slowly you will build up the energy to go for longer walks just know if you have pain to stop and don't push it to much :)

I'm 8 days post op and I walk 2 miles a day split, 1 mile in the morning about 25 min and one in the evening. I also take my dog out 3 times a day for 10-15 min walk. My surgeon told me when he discharged me that I needed to walk an hour to two hours a day.

I used my fitbit to monitor my steps. My first goal was to get in 2000 steps each day. Right after surgery I accomplished reaching that goal by walking several short distances each day. I increased my steps by 2000 each week. Again, reached those goals by walking several times each day. By 2 months out I was getting in a total of 10,000 steps, which equates to about 4 1/2 miles. Today, 4 months out, I am getting in ave of 22,000 -25,000 steps which is 9 -11 miles. I accomplish this by talking my walk in the morning and then again in the evening. Total of about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs each day.

Walk every day if u can and as much as u can tolerate in a day I walked 8 times a day or more and it was in small increments. I'm 2 mths out and down 53lbs so far! I walked a lot bc of gas and the more u walk the quicker you heal really!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
