Nervous Newbie Here!

Recommended Posts

Hi guys! i just scheduled my consultation with the surgeon for Nov. 7th! getting kind of nervous! We still have to send the paper work to the insurances after my visit and hope for their approval! How long has it taken for some of you to get a response back from the insurance?

  1. Hi there, another Nervous Newbie here. I was wondering if you would mind if I asked you a few questions. This is my first time here, I have just had my Psych Eval and Dietician Eval done. Now I wait for them to write up their reports, send them to my PCP who I guess then forwards all that onto my insurance? My main question for you if with you wouldn't mind is what made up your mind to go the route of Gastric Bypass vs Gastric Sleeve? I was leaning towards the Gastric Bypass but after attending a seminar last night with the head surgeon in my area for WLS and after meeting with the Dietician, they said they prefer the Gastric Sleeve. Now I'm confused as to what I want (if I even get a choice). My insurance requires my surgery to be done at UCSF and I meet with a surgeon there but I live about 30 miles away, am able to do everything else in my home town. My other question is how long appx did it take for you to get the a pproval to meet with a surgeon after you had your Psych & Dietician Evals? Thank in advance, WTG on the Surgeon apt for 11/7 :)

I already did the consultation with the doctor and the other stuff except the psych evaluation, and the last few things on my checklist that I cannot remember because my brain is SO exhausted. It's good to find someone in California. Only problem, you are the wrong part of California. I am up North but that's okay we could still talk. :)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
