When does the six month diet start?

Recommended Posts

I have Cigna insurance and I will have to complete the 6 month diet prior to approval. I went to my primary doctor in April to talk with her about it and she gave me the go ahead. In that visit we only discussed my diet and the possibility of the surgery. My question is can that count as my first visit or with that now start this month (May) with AIGB?

Hell yeah it counts!

My surgeon has a form my PCP fills out and faxes to them each month. Month #1 was my first visit with my PCP to discuss the band.

The surgery center I went through had a grid to fill out. It had a place to document the following at each visit: Date, Current weight, Recommendations. amd Comments. My PCP filled it out each month and at the end of the six months, we sent it in. Don't bother unless you have six months worth of entries. I've got CIGNA, too.

Good luck with that. That's the reason I am probably going to be denied this week. I have everything except the 6 month program. Not gonna do it. Would rather suffer the payments myself than wait another day.

That is exactly one of the reasons I went to Mexico.

My surgery was in December 06, I am almost to goal. Had I gone through insurance and jumped through their hoops I would still be on the supervised diet, surgery wouldn't even be scheduled yet. Instead, I am almost done.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
