Good morning and I hope everyone is doing well today. I would love some opinions on what my next step should be. I finished my final weigh in with my PCP for my medically supervised weight loss program on 9/16/14. I had finished all other requirements the week prior to that. When I got home on 9/16 after my final weigh in I e-mailed my patient advocate to tell her that I was finished and she should be receiving my paperwork within the next 24 hours and that if she needed me to do anything to help the process along to let me know. She emailed me back that she would let me know when it was submitted to insurance. I waited till the following Tuesday and emailed her again as I had not heard anything else from her. Got an automated reply that she was on vacation from Sept 17 thru the 23 (I think she could have mentioned that she was going to be out of the office since I had just had contact with her). So on the 24th I emailed her again and she replied saying the bariatric coordinator had my file and she should have it back by the end of the day. So I don't hear anything else from her. On 10/1 I emailed her again with no response. I called and left a voice mail for her yesterday at 9:30 am with no reply. I left another message this morning. My question is if I do not hear back from her today do you think it is appropriate that I contact her supervisor? I am open to any suggestions that you may have. I just don't want them to think that I am a trouble maker or anything but I am kind of tired of being ignored. I have worked in a busy multi-physician office before and we would never end the work day without our messages all being returned. This is just getting on my last nerve.

Thanks for any advice or words of wisdom. My feelings will not be hurt if you all think I should be patient a while longer.

Thanks again.

Summer

Summer rain, I would say call your insurance company first and see if it was submitted to them.

If it was they can tell you if your approved or still have to wait on approval. Then call the PCP or your bariatric office and tell them what you found out or didn't find out. It's been way to long with your wait. Usually ins will approve or deny you in a few days to 2 weeks. So get on the phone and call.

Best of luck

Hey summer rain I agree call ins first and see if it's been submitted that way when u do call the dr office they can't tell u oh it's submitted to get u off the phone first off the lack of communication is appalling in a busy office I'm betting someone must be following up with patients and if not that says something about how they feel about patients I find so much disrespect in the medical field we are spending a ton of money and entrusting our lives to these ppl and they act as if we are bothering them if we ask a question or that they are doing us a favor by answering I've had the same issues getting drs and hospitals to fax records to my bariatric dr they don't return repeated calls I've ended up having to go in person to each place and the hospital to get things moving and at the hospital records office they had the nerve to say well u didn't need to come in u can just call me I said really? I've done that three x s this week with no return call and she says to me real snotty well I'm busy ha! So am I lady! It makes me want to just give up on this whole thing it's so aggravating it takes so long to get anything done ....stay on them and good luck

@@#9grammy thank you! I just put in a call to my insurance company but of course I had to leave a voice mail lol. I will give them today to see if they call back. I just have a sinking feeling that it has not been submitted yet. I can see that I have made some change in my life though because I have not eaten my way through this frustration and anxiety : )

@@shellyd88 You are right. We ALL are busy. I have thought about going to the office but I work longer hours than they do so I would have to wait till next Tuesday since I don't start work until 2 on Tuesdays. I just want to get scheduled so I can request the time off and I would love for it to be THIS year.

edited to add the following:

@@#9grammy wow only 20 more days to go! I bet you are so excited! Good luck and I will keep track of your progress :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
