Tenderness when pressing on tummy

Recommended Posts

I know I can make myself crazy diagnosing myself with things so I will ask here...

Anyone else notice tenderness when pressing on tummy about 12 days post op?

I haven't taken any pain meds for 2 days now and don't know it that was masking it.

I pressed lightly over the area where hiatal hernia would have been repaired and it is definitely tender, not excruciating, but I wouldn't want to be punched there

That's normal. It takes a good six weeks to heal. Stop pressing on it :)

Haha! If it hurts don't touch it, right. I freak myself out and think "oh no it's a leak" or something like that. I think the first 11 days I was still numb. Even some of my incisions were still numb up until today. Now my tummy is waking up or something...nerve regeneration.

I just now realized I have an incision there...so I'm thinking the culprit has been found lol

Of course there is tenderness and soreness. They took a knife and cut you open. While the outside may look healed and maybe the tapes have fallen off, the layers inside of you is not.

I have not noticed any soreness since my release from the hospital. My wife's dogs jump right in the middle of my stomach every time I lay down. No pain, just uncomfortable when they want lay on me.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
