First fill soon

Recommended Posts

It's been 25 days since my surgery and I'm finally headed to get my first fill this Thursday. I'm excited and a little nervous. I'm down 20.5 lbs since surgery and really hope it continues. Hoping it all goes smoothly. Any suggestions or anyone willing to share their first fill experience?

Mine was a real yawner. Just a little pinch feeling and it was over. No restriction from first 2 fills.

my first fill was a little pinch and some pressure. not much restriction. my second fill was painless, not much restriction. my third fill was ouch! and I feel some restriction now. going for my fourth fill next week under fluoroscopy. still feeling mighty hungry and we are working on that.

Congratulations on your loss so far! Relax and begin the fill adventure with patience. It will probably take several months to hone in on your green zone. Just listen to your body and keep all your appointments. In a few months you'll be happily in the green and losing the weight you want to lose. Also if after you resume solid food after a fill and find you can't keep food down, don't wait. Call your doctor. But my fills were gradual and I had no issues. I think I'm in the green now at four fills.

i remember my first fill i was scared but it was just a little stick. my band did not have any Fluid in it when placed so when they put the fluid in my band i could feel it poof up around my stomach it was a weird feeling but i knew then i was going to start having restriction. i had the max fill my doctor would do with the first fill because we wanted me to get use to my band but after many many fills and unfills i finally got to where i needed to be good luck to you :)

They won't give me my first fill. Said I need to eat more solid food and let the band do its job. Very disappointed

What are you eating that made them delay your fill?

They think I am not eating enough solid protei to know if the band is doing its job. My request for fill report asks what you have eaten in last 24 hrs.

Yeah, we have to eat a lot of Protein like fish, chicken and beef. They stimulate the vagus nerve to give us the satiety we need. Other solid foods stimulate the vagus nerve too, like broccoli, carrots, cauliflower and other solid veggies. But, they, the docs want a lot of Protein consumed so we're not losing muscle with the lbs we lose.

You are doing great! I was nervous my first fill but after a stick of lidocaine I felt nothing. Easy!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
