Hello! My name is Mary and I hope to have the lap Band in the next month or so. I have had a really positive experience thus far with HMO-IL and am looking forward to becoming a healthy and active person soon. I am 26 y/o and the process from surgical consult to approval for surgery by HMO-IL took less than a month. My comorbides are asthma, some joint pain, and hypertension. I, like I am sure many of you, have been overweight all my life. All through highschool I weighed approximately 210lbs but I was active in sports and the weight wasn't an issue that much, I even had a few boyfriends. When I got married (of course) I gained alot of weight on my already large frame and it has really been a burden. I know no other way of living other than being uncomfortable most of the time and missing out on all the fun stuff like riding rollercoasters or being comfortable in a bathing suit. My goal for next summer is to stand in line at the amusement park without worrying about fitting inside the ride. When I have children I don't want my weight to affect my ability to play with them or be active in their lives. So I chose Lap Band because I believe it will work as long as I put in my full effort. I have lost weight in the past (70lbs) so I know it can be done.

Welcome to LBT Mary!!!! Our goals are very similar! I had more to lose, and more health issues---but this year I WILL be riding the roller coasters and anything else I want to---I will likely be in tears!

And now I have grandbabies that I wanted to play with, and I do---we run and chase, and "roughhouse" on the floor. I could not even think about it before my band.

I just celebrated my bandiversary, and have lost over 90 pounds-----I am in a size 14 pants now. I can sit in button/zip fly jeans, without feeling like my insides are being cut in two!

I look forward to watching your progress!!!

Kat

Thank you all for your warm welcomings! I am excited and I will try to post consistently throughout this journey. Kat817- it "sounds" like you are truly enjoying your weight loss, I am really happy for you. It is so funny how the smallest things that many people take for granted like crossing your legs or wearing a certain type of jean/pant can mean the world to someone else.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
