2 days before sugery and feeling conflicted

Recommended Posts

My heart goes out to you. Surgery is such an injury to our bodies (yes, this is for our health, and worth it) and your emotional health is at stake here. I believe that with support and love, the healing to our body is faster! You need emotional as well as physical support. I hope that you have people in your life who can step up right now and help you through this. If you don't take care of yourself and become the healthy mom you want to be, who will be there for your children?

I hope your husband has some support, too. He sounds like he has some deep seated issues...

By the way, this is the first post for me - just joined last night... I just began the process in August. Not 100% sure yet, but I'm following my insurance protocol.

You have my prayers...

You need to watch Zsalynn from "My 600 Pound Life" and possibly even contact her through Facebook. She went through and is still going through the same situation/relationship.

Thank you everyone for the feed back, I will be thinking about all this as I am going in for surgery tomorrow. I have decided to go ahead and follow through with the surgery seeing how I feel so much better being 44 lbs lighter already.... Not going to lie, I am scared as hell and still feel extremely guilty, but I am hoping those feelings will fade away after I wake up in recovery tomorrow afternoon!

As a guy, I'm horrified by the ultimatum you were given! My guess is that he'll change his mind, at least for a while, when he realizes that you had the guts to do this. Maybe that will give you the time you need to get back on your feet as the new stronger you. I wish you the very best for your surgery and in the weeks and months ahead. It's a wonderful journey you're embarking on. Congratulations on being strong enough to go through with it! Please post back to this thread on the other side so we'll all get notified of how you're doing. You have a very caring and supportive group behind you here and we're all rooting for you!!!

The wedding vows NEVER were, " 'Til WLS do us part!" I'm with @KarenF1972. What an A-$-$-H-O-L-E! You don't need this turkey. "Hey, don't stand behind the door, or I'll flatten you with it as I go have surgery!" There are other men who would love to be with you. That's what you deserve.

Please do this for yourself and your little ones. They deserve a full-on Mom that can play with them. You deserve to see them grow up and possibly get to know your grandchildren.

I was just sleeved last Friday. The first 24 hrs. were a bit hard--- couldn't get enough liquid down (so they gave me IV fluids - not a big deal) and threw up a little a few times. The next day I felt like a new person. Yesterday and today I actually felt normal, like nothing had ever happened. I didn't even need the pain meds that had been prescribed.

I vote for your going through with it.

Sounds like a jerk but here is my take. My husband met me when I was skinny/er. I have gained a crap loaed of weight 90 lbs. He still loves me, bummed but still loves me, I want this surgery for my health and to be a better more active Mom. Hey, if he walks it is HIS LOSS! He will lose you the time with the kids, If he is so selfish he needs to wake up! After all is not some of the attraction because of who a person is on the inside. Do this for you and your children....

Hello I hope you have smooth sailing with your procedure and a terrific recovery and a fabulous future ahead of u with better health and activity with your children often when ppl give ultimatums it's because they are afraid of losing control over a situation that may change if you change by losing weight and gaining health no one who loves you and truly wants what's best for you would give such an ultimatum that sounds like self interest instead of your best interest and your children's I hope you move forward with confidence in your decision regardless and don't let anyone block your path to a healthier future for yourself and the children best wishes

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
