Can't get enough protein. Problems with protein powder.

Recommended Posts

Hi I am 4 1/2 weeks out and trying to find other ways to get Protein. I am still not getting near enough. I am only able to get in less than 50 grams. I have trouble with whey, milk products. Also my pouch is very small. I still can't barely get 1/4 cup of anything in at a time. When I try smoothies or drinks it takes me 3 to 4 meal times to get it down. By then I am not wanting the flavor or texture anymore. Would love suggestions. Today I was able to make no bake lasagna in. 1/4 cup ricotta 2 tbs spaghetti sauce and top with 1 tbs grated mozzarella cheese. Warm in the microwave. I like to let it cool it helps with the texture. Thank you for your suggestions.

How are you with tuna try a 100g or close can they give 20+ g of Protein and if the flavour is bad or need it softer don't remove the Water n add a lil fat free mayo. My Nut said I need 20g more for myself so I have a small can. Be sure to only get the tuna in spring water the others have way too much salt.

My coworker sent this to me today! She had the sleeve as well. I wish I new about this before. I have a hard time getting enough as well and Protein shakes were drab long before surgery lol. GOOD luck!

I have read that adding the unflavored Protein powder to many things helps beef up you Protein numbers. You can add it to about anything.

Hi,

Well may I suggest Egg White Protein powder from Jay Robb. It packs in 25g of Protein in each scoop.

I suggest Quest Bars that have 20 or 21 grams of protein in each bar but check with your nutritionist if it's okay for you to have them at this stage.

Almond milk is an alternative to using regular milk but get the sugar free and again check with your nutritionist about using this.

Soy milk again is an alternative to using regular milk but check with your nutritionist about using it.

To add a little interest in your shakes you could use sugar free Torani syrups that come in a multitude of flavors.

You could use PB2 in your shakes. It adds some additional protein and it's yummy. It comes in Peanut Butter powder or in chocolate Peanut Butter powder. You find at Target, Walmart, grocery stores.

These are just a few suggestions.

Good luck and best wishes on your journey to a healthier you.

I purchased Unjury unflavored Protein Powder and add it to 18 oz of Crystal Light. It's 21 grams per scoop. I am two weeks post op! Getting 70 to 80 grams Protein a day. Swear by it!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
