Am I too tight?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I was adjusted 8 days ago by another 2 mls to make a total of 6 mls in my band that can take up to 9mls. I first thought it was just the swelling and it would ease.

I'm only managing tiny amounts and then I feel disgusting and full and uncomfortable. (Not even 5mouthfuls at times for this to happen) and I find I can't eat in the morning and I can't eat later than 4pm without being sick as it's stuck.

This is only my 2nd adjustment I've had as I was only banded at the beginning of July this year.

Any thoughts? Could it still be the swelling?

@@messagetosiobhan I am going to go out on a limb here and say that yes I think you are too tight right now.

You have had some very aggressive fills over the last 3 months and are pretty close to a full band already. In the first 3 months of my surgery my Dr. did not do any fills to allow the internal swelling from surgery to resolve and for the band to heal and seat itself to prevent a slip.

Not every doctor is the same but you should be able to consume fluids and not be feeling so horrible. It's worth going in and having Fluid removed and allowing your internal swelling to heal before adding the Fluid back in. Ask the Dr. to go slow with the fills and not add so much at once to give you a chance to see where your tolerance is at.

I have a 10CC band and it took me about a year to get to my actual green zone and then recent events and medications I had to take because of them created stomach upset and swelled my stomach and stoma up creating a small pouch dilation and I had to have fluid taken out.

You don't want to do damage to your insides, so give the doctor a call and ask them what they think and consider having some fluid removed, even the tiniest bit can make all the difference.

Let us know how you are doing.

Hopefully you are able to intake enough liquids to remain hydrated, that is critical!

I'd also guess that it seems the band may be too tight. I've never had problems after a fill, but I've had brief episodes where I've eaten too fast or didn't chew properly after a recent fill and the band let me know about it in a not too nice manner. I'd call your doctor's office to see what they suggest. After 8 days out I'd concerned.

I am drinking well, slowly as I am sure I can feel it pooling before it drains. But it's really put me off eating as I don't want to keep bringing stuff up! I had 2.5mls in at the time of surgery.

I think the surgeon put a reasonable amount in this time because my portions were bigger to keep me full. But it's gone pretty full circle! I literally have to move around after a little bit of food to move things around!

don't ignore what your gut is telling you. I did and it caused some complications. if a band is to tight the food starts to go back up the esophagus causing spasms and pain. if you are pb'ing frequently you may cause your band to slip. so please call your doctor.

2mls is a really agressive fill. The most I've had put in at once was .75. It's a good idea to get a little unfill and see if that helps.

I agree that is a pretty big fill. I would call and talk to your doc if you think you could be too tight. is much better to do this slowly to avoid problems. Good luck

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
