Why am I SO tired?!

Recommended Posts

I'm 9 days post op, on full liquids, haven't cheated once, (even though I want to drown myself with all the liquid!), and I find myself to be EXTREMELY exhausted and weak. I can't walk up my stairs without being out of breath and having to sit down immediately after, my showers last 3-5min bc my arms and legs can't stand it. I'm drinking everything I should be, mainly just Protein and some Water. I've been walking at least once a day. But other than that just sitting on the couch cos of being so tired!

Anyone else feel/felt this way?

My starting weight was 226lbs and today I'm down to 210lbs and my first post op dr's visit is today. Thanks everyone!

It's perfectly normal after surgery. Your body just needs to recuperate. Push yourself to walk and be active, but when you need to rest or nap, do it!

It took about 12 or so weeks before I felt like myself again. Keep up on your Vitamins and Water... I get sluggish when I'm behind on my Iron and B vites! Hang in there and get LOTS of rest. You're still in recovery.

I felt miserable after surgery for 1-2 weeks. I felt like the anesthesia and drugs hadn't really worn off enough for me to function correctly. Eventually I just forced myself to go on long walks and much to my surprise, I didn't die, but ended up feeling better. Your body is diverting all of its energy toward fixing what it sees as trauma (cutting out your stomach) so it is less concerned about allowing you to exercise and feel great than it is about making sure your organ is healed.

Thanks ladies! I appreciate it! I'm hoping I can get back to normal soon bc I go back to work on Monday .. Standing for 8 hours at a time. Probably not the best idea! Time will tell. Thanks again!

I was tired for a few months. The best advise I can give you is Water, water, and more water. Staying hydrated should be your primary focus. I am 4 months out and still have problems with this. Its not that I cant drink fluids, just dont unless its coffee.< /p>

I too am 8 days out of surgery. I'm exhausted. I went back to work after one week. I had no pain at all so I know I'm very lucky there. I feel like it's the anesthesia for sure. I'm forcing myself to walk though because I always feel better after. A nap just makes me more tired lol.

Congrats to everyone!

I feel your pain! I went back to work yesterday (only 5 hours) and I had to call out today. I slept from 7:30-3:00!!! I couldn't believe how hard it hit me. Good luck to you!

That happened to me too. I was exhausted. So worried for when I had to start taking the subway when I came back home (surgery in Dominican Republic). I came a month after and the stairs still where horrible. I had surgery August 4th and today I did 50 minutes of exercise on a bike and treadmill. Stairs are a little hard still but I promise it gets better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
