Difficulty Identifying Final Goal Weight

I reached my initial goal, which was a semi-random number I came up with and my wife is under the impression that I'm anorexic because I'm unwilling to stop losing.

I'm wearing 34 pants, which I'm happy about, but have fatty love handles and thighs. My BMI still indicates overweight but my muscular frame negates that number.

My bariatric office is very happy with my progress and said my body will naturally stop losing when I've reached an ideal weight. However I'm not completely buying that as I feel I have some control if that via my caloric intake.

This is becoming a very hot topic in our household as of late and now my daughter is chiming in too.

I've encouraged my wife to attend my next PCP appointment coming up next month, but I am getting tired of all the whining. Too fat ... Too skinny ...

I think 6 more pounds will be good and I'm telling her I will follow the advice of the doctors (PCP, cardiologist, surgeon, and nephroligist), which I think is the responsible thing to do ....

Any recommendations on how to deal with this ?

I am dealing with this issue with my wife and family. I am 9+ months out from surgery, lost 140 pounds and I currently weigh 220 lbs. My initial weight target was 230lbs. The surgeon did not set a goal for me.

My wife and family think I look "skinny". I think that is because I have been overweight for a decade and they are used to seeing me differently.

I am wondering where my weight loss will settle. I have a BMI of 27 but have not really paid much attention to that. The weight loss has begun to slow down, but I feel like I have more weight to lose. I feel good, I am more active, exercise regularly and look good in my clothes. I will stick with the tracking and monitoring, and plan on intensifying my exercise through the winter to loose some excess fat and strengthen.

I feel like I have accomplished a lot and if I loose another 10 pounds, great! But if I settle in here I will be ok with that as well.

lost 140 pounds - wife and family think I look "skinny"

way to go with your amazing weight loss!!!!!

if you are looking and feeling good - wanting to lose those last 10 lbs, i say go for it!!!!

like i asked @@Andrew0929 are any of your other family members even a LITTLE overweight???

maybe they are feeling happy for you, but a little sad for themselves

they need to lose weight - and you showing your new "figure" might give them weird feelings :(

NOT jealous, maybe a little "envious"??? i think theres a difference

if doc is ok with you losing a little more, thats great

IMO always listen to you first and foremost

maybe/probably you are tired of being "called" overweight over the years\

now surprise, surprise - "they" think you are too thin

can't win for losing :(

good luck dude

keep up the good work

happy maintennace :)

kathy

congrats

I know the bmi charts are flawed but I think that it gives a rough guideline. For example I have never met a person who's bmi was between 25-30 who was too skinny.

It's a strange situation for many of us...my BMI is about 23; weighing 140 is very reasonable for. 5'5" tall woman but I have people who think i am too thin and have girlfriends way thinner (one is 117 at same height) but since people are used to it she is not too skinny.

The best exercise is the one you will do. The best goal weight, as long as it is somewhere in the healthy ballpark, is one you can maintain.
