My brain knows but my heart hurts...

Recommended Posts

Hi. I was sleeved on 7/31. I lost 43 lbs in the 4 week pre-op diet, gained 7 lbs while I was in the hospital, lost that and then gained 9 lbs during the full liquid stage (that was a heartbreaker!). I finally lost that. I have lost a total of 58 lbs since July 1. Rationally, I know that I have never lost 58 lbs in 10 weeks in my long history of dieting and I should be thrilled. I am measuring, counting, exercising and following the plan religiously and have only lost 13 lbs. since surgery.

When you have a lot to lose, this is a little defeating. Just need some encouragement. Thanks!

I'm only 5 days out but I have read a lot of posts on this and the best advice I've heard is PUT AWAY THE scale . . . I know it's hard (today is the first day I haven't weighed myself) but these stalls seem to happen to everyone and the weight loss never seems to be constant. So I think what you are seeing is totally normal - besides, you lost SO much on your pre-op (Congrats!) that your body is going to need to time to catch up. I truly believe that if you just keep following the plan it will work. I think weighing yourself once a week is best, and some weeks you may not lose anything but you will notice inches gone. Anyway, I don't have a lot to offer because I'm not even as far out as you, but I know what you're describing has been posted by SO MANY others and it is totally normal and not anything to worry about - it will come off! Congrats on the huge amount lost so far and Good Luck!

You seem to have done really well, just because you don't lose every week doesn't mean your doing anything wrong. It maybe the time and date you lasted weighted conflicting when you last ate. Try getting rid of the scales if you can set yourself a date every week that you are going to weight yourself. That way you may find it easier to deal with. Good luck and wishing you all the best

Jayhawk,

You have done very well thus far, at losing a great amount of weight. I too had surgery on 7/31/14 and can understand your frustration. If I could suggest to you to try not weigh yourself daily (it messes more with the psyche). Keep up the good work of what your doctor and nutritionist said and you will continue to do well!

Good luck!

Well, let's see. You've lost 13 pounds in, what, 38 days.

That's over 1/3 pound per day. That's 2 1/3 pounds a week.

That sounds pretty good to me. :)

I think most people lose a ton of Water in the first few weeks.. but you already lost them prior to the surgery.. You've lost a good amount of weight in 2 months! if you lose a little slower, hopefully you will have better skin!

You are doing great. When was the last time you lost that much weight in so little time? Please try to be patient. Your body is trying to make sense of all the weight you have already lost. Don't get discouraged. Just keep following the plan and watch those pounds melt away ????

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
