Where is everyone's port?

Recommended Posts

I have had several people I know who are veterans, have to undergo emergency surgery because of various reasons, but it all usually pointed back to the fact that their port was in their stomach.

I had my surgery 5/2/14 and my surgeon put my port close to my armpit, and I guess I was hoping that he did that to prevent these issues from happening.

Everybody's okay, I am just a little freaked out lol. So I'm curious to know where everyone has their port.

I'm not sure I'm understanding you...when you get your fills, injections, the needle is inserted near your arm pit?

Not saying you don't, this is just new information to me....also the port getting into someones stomach.

But to answer your question, my port is midway between my sternum and navel, a little to my right....it is fastened to the abdominal muscle, just below the layers of skin and fat.

As I lost my belly fat, it is right below the skin and has become very prominent and can be seen through t-shirts etc.

Different surgeons have different preferences. I think the most lapbanders are reporting that their ports are as the 2 posters mention above. Most mediports on the other hand are up in the clavicular area. I don't believe the port placement contributes to problems as much as comfort/discomfort.

My port is almost in my armpit, right above my breast.

The people who have had emergency surgery; one of them had the tubing from the port become adhezed to their intestines and move their intestines around causing a bowel obstruction.

And since port is so high up, I figure that May have been a preventative measure of sorts. I don't know, just curious to see where everyone has their port!

About three inches below my left breast. Like B52, the more belly fat I lose the more prominent it is. It sticks out a lot actually. Oh well. Not baring my midriff anytime soon.

"Mid clavicular line" as B52 lists, about mid-way between xiphoid process & navel.

Seems pretty well protected, and as the fat melted away like an ice sheet, become more prominent.

When asked by those observant/rude enough to ask, I respond "That's my alien implant".....

Go to top of page to your profile and click on it and then click on "my ticker". It should let you create a ticker with your information.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
