Share with me post op instruction of you surgeon 3 to 4 weeks after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Every surgeon is different and I want to know what your surgeon told you 3 to 4 weeks post op.

Mine only said no fat, low fat diet but never mentioned quantity. Is it true you have to only eat 4 oz per meal so as not to increase your pouch? I am really confuse at this stage, first of all, I am always hungry!!!!

Help!

I was still on full liquids until six weeks had passed.

I hate when patients are given such ambiguous instructions. It's ridiculous and only sets a person up for failure. Until your band is providing sufficient restriction, you might want to follow a Weight Watchers type of plan as I did along with tracking your calories, Protein, etc. in myfitness pal. I did and this food plan helped me to drop 140+ lbs. without being hungry all the damn time. I still have to be aware of what and how much I eat, but I am praying that I never gain it back again. I love being this size and the freedom it provides and I never want to be fat again.

FYI, I eat 3 oz. Protein, 1/2 cup veggies, 1/4 cup carbs at most meals. I stay under 1,200 calories daily and try to get in at least 50 grams of protein. You can tailor a plan to your needs and preferences. Good luck and here's wishing you great success.

You're in Bandster Hell! It's the time between surgery and when you get enough fills so you feel satisfied with less food for 2-4 hours. The Green Zone is when you feel satisfied with a meal for up to 4-5 hours.

Your stoma(band portal) could be wide open if the surgeon didn't prime the band. So, you can probably eat anything and as much as you want till you get that fill that closes the stoma and gives you the satiety you need. Until then, it's just another diet. Sorry but almost all of us went through this phase and we all survived. I just ate healthy foods but didn't stick to the 4-8 oz servings. But I didn't gain and didn't lose after the initial 12 lbs in the first two weeks.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
