Hi everyone,

I had surgery 5 days ago and today I had a small piece of chicken (approximately 2-3 ounces) and now I am freaking out reading that if you eat solids too soon you could ruin your surgery and need surgery again. I chewed very slowly and only ate that piece but now I'm about to cry because I'm scared. I am not in any pain, I just feel full.

Please, give me your opinions.

You are probably fine.. don't chance damaging yourself though. follow your dr's instructions. believe it or not you will not starve to death.. I know it's hard but it will be so worth it .

no food is worth you having to go back to surgery..

I know for me 5 days post op I could eat like 3 bites of mashed potatoes or like a couple bites of Soup and feel like i was so full I would explode. Stick to soft stuff and liquids for a while. Let your tummy heal.

Mostly likely you will be just fine - however i highly recommend you review what your dr instructed you in regards to after surgery care was. most likely you should still be in the mushie stage but honestly every dr/facility is different so your may well have said chicken at this point is fine provideing you chew well and wait between bites. i remember well the hunger and frustration at this part of my journey and how easily it can be to become confused. just take is slow and follow the rules and you will be just fine.

welcome to our crazy banded family

Thank you for helping me, I am still worried just because I've always been one to overthink. I will just take this as a lesson and get back on the right track starting now.

Thank you to both of you, I will just move on from this mistake and get back on the right track. I can't help but worry though, since so many online articles say it can lead to my band slipping. Thanks again

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
