How many calories are u getting in?

Recommended Posts

I'm having a hard time eating enough, I was getting about 700 calories daily and burning about 800 with exercise. My nutritionist told me that for the quantity of exercise I'm doing I need to eat from 1200 to 1500 calories so I'm not running my body on empty it sounds too much for me I have to put 100 gms of Protein if I want to keep exercising the way I do which is 1.5hr of cardio 5 to 6 times a week! Is any one out there eating about that same amount of calories? I'm afraid I will stop losing weight and I'm doing really good but I don't want to hurt myself either by not eating enough! I got the surgery to be and feel healthy but it looks like I like extremes! I don't know what to do ????

Hi Mayshula!

I have been tracking my food and exercise in a app called Loseit on my phone and i have noticed that on days when i eat 1000+ calories and not exercised I might stall or gain a portion of a pound and when I both eat and exercise if my "net" is in the 600-1200 calorie realm I may lose something. I haven't had calorie-specific guidance from the doc's office and when I asked them today in my followup they pretty much waved a hand and poopoo'ed tracking your calories. They want you to track Protein and Water intake now and figure that the portion sizes and items available/on our diet right now will regulate the rest. I still want to have some guidance on calories and I think that the app's format helps with that. On the top of the screen it tells you how many calories you've eaten, how many you've burnt off, tells you the "net" amount of calories your body is taking in (eaten minus burned off) and then a bolded section that tells you how many calories you are over/under the day's allotment of calories.

My pre-op amount of calories for weight maintenance (was calculated by a nutritionist for me) was 2263. No matter what I do i simply can't go over (post op) something like 1200-1500 not counting exercise and so far today i'm at a net of -658 or under 2,899 calories. (big 12+ mile bike ride today, and a food intake count of 878).

Anyway, calorie counting does help with monitoring how well you are doing and i plan to continue doing it because even if i'm stalled (same weight +/- 1 lb. for last 4 of 5 weeks) I can at least know that I'm not being a bad behavior person and that the stall is because my body is changing, not because I'm overeating or eating exactly what ineed for maintenance.

some folks use my fitness (something or other, there's a third word) but i've been using loseit for almost three years now and i love it. if you want to start using it there is an in-app ability to connect to your friends to be loseit buddies. i've never done this but would love a buddy.

I agree with u I like to know how many calories an taking in! I used myfitnesspal I have been doing that for about 4 years and I love. With my vgs I have a hard time getting 1200 calories in, but I don't want to get sick either so I'm trying every day I have been reaching my goal of 100 grams of daily Protein but is so hard. Sometimes I think I'm afraid of food because I don't want to stretch out my stomach???? I know it sounds crazy but that is what the crazy voice in my head tells me! U sound really active...i love to exercise too and love riding my bike after 17years! My username in myfitnesspal is siemprechapina or we can connect through Facebook too. It would be great to talk with someone who is going through a similar process!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
